Box Score 2 Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team dropped a pair of games to East Coast Conference opponent, Dowling, 10-4 and 10-1, in a doubleheader played in Flushing on Saturday. Nick Osburn blasted his team-leading third home run of the season. He also leads the team in RBI with 12.
Dowling struck first in game one by scoring once in the first. QC promptly tied the game in the bottom half as Francesco Monastra led off with a single. He got to third on a single by Lebro Burnette and scored on a wild pitch. The Golden Lions scored again in the second to lead 2-1.
They had another big inning in the fourth, scoring four times to take a 6-1 lead. Just when it seemed the game would get away from the Knights, Osburn struck. Burnette singled in the infield. Setfan Shagaun follwed with a base hit to left. Osburn then hit a home run off the taller, black wall, in left field. He pulled the team within 6-4. Dowling got a run in the fifth and three more in the seventh to go on and win 10-4.
Burnette and Joe Morris each had two hits to lead the Knights. Jonathan Ramos threw a scoreless inning of relief. Brandon Burrell was tagged with the loss and is still in search of his first win with QC.
Game two saw Queens fall behind, 5-0, before they scored. C.J. Gerdowsky blooped an RBI single to center that scored Mike O'Dwyer. Ramos threw another scoreless inning of relief in this game as well. With the two losses, the Knights are 7-13 overall and 2-9 in ECC play.
Queens and Dowling will conclude their series on Sunday, April 13, in a game played in Brookhaven, New York. The first pitch is slated for noon.
