Box Score Flushing, N.Y. – The Queens College Knights baseball team
took the fourth and final game of the season series against the
Dowling College Golden Lions 10-4. The victory gets QC back to .500
in the ECC with a conference record of 8-8.
The Knights used a three run bottom of the first and a six run
third inning to get ahead of the Golden Lions for good. In
the bottom of the first, Queens had runs batted in by Nick LoBello,
Tim Francis and CJ Gerdowsky. The bottom of the third was
highlighted by a Frank Duffy RBI triple down the right field line.
Duffy would score in the next at bat as a result of a wild pitch by
Dowling starter Ryan Aloise. Steven Varela singled in two runs
during the frame as well. He and Warren Kelly would come around to
score on a Kyle DeMeo error at short. Aloise took the loss
for Dowling College, giving up 6 runs (4 ER) in two and one-third
innings pitched.
On the mound, Pete Cappiello was solid in his second conference
start, recording his third win of the 2013 season. Cappiello threw
six and one-third innings, giving up just four runs (3 ER) on six
hits. The southpaw struck out two and walked just three.
Jonathan Russell came on in relief of Cappiello, nailing down the
win for Queens.
The Knights baseball team will next host the St. Thomas Aquinas
Spartans to start a four game set on Friday, April 26th.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
