Queens Volleyball Loses Hard-Fought Match to Daemen in Four Sets

Box Score

The Queens volleyball team looked for some revenge on Saturday, as they tried to avenge an earlier loss to Daemen, but in the end, it was the Wildcats who prevailed in four sets, in a match played in the auxiliary gym in Flushing.  The scores of the sets were 22-25, 25-20, 27-25 and 25-13.

The opening set began with the Knights on the offensive as they jumped out to a 5-3 lead behind the strong serving of Arielle DiCocco, a couple of kills from Angela Kranz and another kill from MacKenzie Hamilton.  Damen then rallied back, and the game was eventually even at 7-7.

From there, Queens went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-7 lead.  In that scoring spree, Francesca Indoni was the sever and the Knights got kills from Tori Bowser, Hamilton and Indoni.  Queens went on to win the set when Bowser recorded a kill off an assist from Ceren Kilic.

Set two had the Wildcats jump out to a 13-4 lead.  QC ran off four consecutive points, but Daemen eventually led 16-8.  Queens fought back to pull within three points when Kilic found Bowser for a kill to get the Knights within 22-19.  Daemen took the second set, 25-20.

The New York Knicks could have taken a lesson in defense from Queens in set three, as the Knights used several blocks and a few key digs to withstand a Daemen onslaught.  The Wildcats led 8-2 early on, but a 10-2 Knights run leveled the set at 12-12.  The keys to the run were strong serves from Indoni and Kranz.  Daemen responded to take an 18-15 lead.

Trailing by three, QC turned up the defensive pressure which keyed a 7-0 run to give the Knights a 22-18 advantage.  That run had three blocks lead to points for Queens as Bowser, DiCocco and Indoni were credited with blocks.  Eventually the set would be tied at 25-all, but a pair of Wildcats points gave them set three, 27-25.

The final set saw Daemen slowly pull away to win the set, 25-13.  With the loss, the Knights are 10-13 overall, 4-11 in the East Coast Conference.  Kilic led the Knights with 32 assists and 14 digs.

The team closes out its schedule on Sunday, when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 1:00 PM.  Prior to the game, Kilic will be honored in the Senior Day ceremony.
