Bernardo, Casella Notch Two Hits Apiece vs. Bridgeport

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College baseball team received two-hit performances from juniors Rob Bernardo (Staten Island, N.Y.) and James Casella (Oceanside, N.Y.) Wednesday afternoon at Ray Metski Field, as the Knights fell in an East Coast Conference contest to visiting University of Bridgeport, 10-2.

The Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead over the Purple Knights. Sophomore starting pitcher Joe Salanitri (W. Islip, N.Y.) led off the frame with a double to left field, and moved up 90 feet on a single to left by Bernardo. Salanitri scampered home on a wild pitch, before junior Anthony Mazzella's (Wantagh, N.Y.) sixth double of the season brought Bernardo home two batters later.

Freshman catcher C.J. Gerdowsky (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Tom Mercatante (Roslyn Harbor, N.Y.) each had one hit in the Queens attack.

Head coach Tom Sowinski's Knights are back in ECC action Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Brookhaven, N.Y., for a 12 noon doubleheader at Dowling College.
