FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's tennis team remained perfect on the 2011 fall season Wednesday afternoon, as the Knights ran their record to 4-0 overall, and 3-0 in East Coast Conference play, with a 9-0 decision versus visiting Dowling College. Three QC singles players did not give up one game in their respective matches, while the same held true in two of the three doubles bouts.
The doubles tandems of senior Linda Tatala-Colin (Laxou, France) and junior Erika Goldsmith (Edison, N.J.), along with seniors Andrea Salvetova (Plzen, Czech Republic) and Taylor Barber (Salt Lake City, Utah), won by identical 8-love scores at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, respectively. Sophomore Anna Rodionova (Orenburg, Russia) and freshman Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) then completed the Queens doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory over Kauana Goncalves and Courtney Deveau at the No. 2 flight.
Tatala-Colin outlasted ECC Preseason Player of the Year, Robyn Romanoff, by identical 6-4 scores at the top of the singles lineup. In addition to that, the Nos. 2-through-6 flights for QC gave up just two total games to Dowling (3-2, 2-1 ECC) in the remainder of singles action. Goldsmith defeated Goncalves by a 6-0, 6-1 score at No. 2, while Fanchin used 6-1 and 6-love scores to best Deveau at the No. 4 flight. Rodionova (No. 3, versus Amber O'Malley), freshman Phoebe Chiem (Duluth, Ga.; vs. Alyssa Krolyck) and junior Daniela Celi (Casselberry, Fla.; vs. Michelle Disanto) all emerged victorious by identical 6-love, 6-love sets at the Nos. 3, 5 and 6 flights, respectively.
Head coach Alan Nagel's Queens team is back in action this weekend (Sept. 17-19), when it travels to Philadelphia for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's East Regional Championships.
