Baseball Falls in Twinbill at Dowling

SHIRLEY, N.Y. – The Queens College baseball team dropped an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Dowling College Saturday afternoon, falling by final scores of 10-3 and 12-1. Freshman Chris Ramanauskas went a combined 3-for-6 with a two doubles on the day for the visiting Knights.

Game 1: Dowling 10, Queens 3

Queens (10-33, 8-21 ECC) opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, before Dowling (21-23, 16-13 ECC) countered with a three spot in its half to take the lead for good. The Knights pulled to within a 3-2 count in the top of the third, before the Golden Lions put the game out of reach with two runs in the third and five in the fourth frames, respectively.

Ramanauskas went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Robert Bernardo (1-for-4) also scored once. Warren Kelly (1-for-2, 2 BB) and Michael Shada (2 BB) each drove in one run for Queens. Senior Eric Reyes took the loss on the hill for the Knights, making his first start of the year and going the distance in the process.

Game 2: Dowling 12, Queens 1

Dowling scored runs in all but the second inning, and took control from the outset. The Knights put one up on the board in the fifth frame, when Bernardo (1-for-2) drove in Michael Scro (1-for-2). Ramanauskas added a double in the nightcap, while sophomore Anthony Mazzella went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Queens wraps up its season Sunday afternoon, when the same two teams meet for a 12 noon first pitch at Ray Metski Field in Flushing, N.Y. Reyes will be honored prior to the contest in a Senior Day ceremony.
