No. 28 Women's Tennis Falls at Division I NJIT, 7-0

NEWARK, N.J. – The Queens College women's tennis team, ranked No. 28 in the Campbell's/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Poll, saw its 18-match unbeaten streak come to a close to wrap up its regular season, as the Knights fell at Division I member, NJIT by a 7-0 decision on Saturday afternoon. The match was a final tune-up for Queens (18-1), which will compete in the May 1-3, NCAA Division II Women's Tennis East Regional Championship.

Both Maria Mendes and Andrea Salvetova took their respective singles matches in the No. 5 and 6 flights to a third-set tiebreaker, before ultimately falling to the Highlanders (14-8). Mendes took the first set of her match against Ana Lidon by a 6-1 score, before falling by scores of 6-4 and then 10-5 in the tiebreaking third set. Salvetova dropped her first set to Hannelore MacDonald by a 6-2 count, before winning the second set by an identical score. The tiebreaker went to MacDonald, though, by a 10-6 decision.

The announcement of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship field will take place Tuesday night (April 26) at 7 p.m., exclusively on ncaa.com.
