GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Queens College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Center for Recreation and Sports, falling in a neutral-site match to Le Moyne College (19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 28-26) before losing to host Adelphi University in three sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-13).

Senior middle blocker Jovana Pavlovic (Belgrade, Serbia) continued her hot pace of late, putting down a match-high 21 kills on .364 hitting to go with 13 digs. Freshman middle blocker Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added 10 kills and three blocks to the Knights' cause, while senior setter Stephanie Schroeder (Lynbrook, N.Y.) served a match-best three aces while adding 18 assists and eight digs. Junior Suzanne Byrne (Richmond, B.C.) added seven kills and a team-high 15 digs on defense. Sophomore Ceren Kilic (Istanbul, Turkey) led QC with 19 assists in the Knights' 6-2 offense.
In the first set, Queens broke open a 6-5 advantage with six straight points, including three kills by Hickey and a service ace by Kilic, to push its advantage to seven points. The Dolphins pulled to within a 15-12 count, before the Knights embarked on an 8-1 spurt to put the set out of reach.
A kill from Kilic gave Queens a 17-14 edge in set two, before Le Moyne used a 6-2 spurt to take a 20-19 edge. QC knotted the score at 20-all after a Dolphins attack error, before the latter scored the last five points of the set to knot the match at 1-all.
Two kills from Pavlovic in a four-point stretch lifted the Knights to an 11-7 lead in the third set. However, Le Moyne scored the next seven points and never trailed the rest of the way in taking a 2-1 advantage in the match.
Hickey's play late in the fourth set aided Queens to come back from a 22-18 deficit in forcing a 24-all tie. The Knights later took a 26-25 lead off a service ace from Schroeder, before the Dolphins rattled off the next three points to seal the match.

Byrne led the Knights (2-11) with eight kills and a team-best 16 digs against the Panthers. Queens struggled to get untracked offensively in the match with 24 kills and a .038 hitting percentage (Adelphi: .302), and received six kills from Pavlovic (11 digs). Schroeder and Hickey put down four kills apiece on offense.
The host Panthers (11-4) used a 9-2 spurt to open up a lead they would not relinquish in the first set. However, the second set was close throughout with the Knights tying things up at 19-19 (kill from Byrne) and 20-20 (AU service error). From there, Adelphi scored the next three points of the set, and the teams traded points the rest of the way as the hosts took a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Panthers scored five of the first six points, and 17 of the first 24, in the third and final set to take control in closing out the match.
Head coach Leanna Taylor's Knights are back on the floor Tuesday night (Oct. 11), when they play host to C.W. Post in an East Coast Conference match at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
