Sophomore Suzanne Byrne led the QC attack with 22 kills in a
tri-match split with Georgian Court and Southern Connecticut State.
The Knights lost to SCSU in four in the first match of the day but
rebounded to sweep GCU in an afternoon match played in Fitzgerald
Gymnasium on Saturday.
Trailing 10-6 in game one of the contest versus Southern
Connecticut, the Knights rallied to take a 21-20 lead on a kill by
Byrne off a an assist from Stephanie Schroeder. SCSU then proceeded
to score five of the next six points to take the game, 25-22 but QC
turned the tables on SCSU in game two to even the match at one game
each. Brogan Miller's kill put the Owls up 22-20 but this time it
was QC's turn to close out the game with five of the last six
points, the final two on a Hannah Berwian ace and a SCSU attack
error.
Kills by Byrne (16 kills) and Berwian knotted the pivotal third
game at 14 but Southern Connecticut rattled off 11 of the last
fifteen points to win 25-18. QC had game four in the bag, leading
22-15 on another Berwian kill - assisted by Schroeder - but SCSU
stormed back to take the game and the match, 26-24.
The Knights got on the winning side of the ledger later in the
day by posting a 25-21, 25-13, 25-23 victory over Georgian Court.
Jovana Pavlovic broke a 20-20 tie with a kill to send the Knights
on their way to the win in the first game. The second game was
Knights all the way with the home team scoring the first seven
points on their way to a 12 point victory. The clinching game went
down to the wire but with the score deadlocked at 23, GCU made two
attack errors to give QC the game and the match.
Lisa Marie Papenthin had eight kills (18 for the day) and Ceren
Kilic dished out 22 assists (for a total of 43 in the tri-match) in
