PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Continuing non-conference play, the Queens College women's volleyball team opened a three-match roadstand Tuesday evening as the Knights matched up against Pace University Setters inside the Ann and Alfred Goldstein Health, Fitness & Recreation Center.
The Knights were led by the rookie duo of
Zoe Sercu and
Garnette Webb, who combined for 14 kills, but it was the Setters who earned the four-set victory.

Queens fell behind early, 9-2, before the duo of Sercu and
Mikayla Haskell helped the Knights put together a 4-0 run to get within 9-6. However, the Setters continued their strong start to the set and earned a 25-10 first-set victory to take a 1-0 match lead.
In the second set, Queens fell behind 15-4 before putting together a rally to get within four, 15-11, led by Haskell recording two service aces and Webb notching two kills.
Pace reextended its lead to seven, 21-14, but the Knights would not go away quietly, clawing back within three on two occasions. However, the Setters held on to take a 2-0 match lead with a 25-20 second-set victory.
In the third set, Queens opened with a 3-2 lead, its first lead of the evening. Looking to build momentum, Webb and Sercu led the charge as the Knights built a 9-5 advantage, forcing a Pace timeout.
After the Setters put together two straight points to get within two, 9-7, a kill from Webb helped Queens reclaim a three-point edge at 10-7.

Lucia Bennett and Haskell, along with an ace from rookie
Evangelia Paterakis, helped Queens take a 13-9 lead.
Both sides continued to trade points before the Setters tied the set at 16-16, forcing a Queens timeout.
Out of the timeout, Pace went on a 3-1 run to take a 19-17 lead, but the Knights' rookie squad answered back by tying the set at 19-19.
After the Setters reclaimed a 20-19 lead, Webb notched back-to-back kills to give Queens a 21-20 advantage.
The two sides continued to trade points before a Pace attacking error gave Queens a 23-22 edge, forcing a Setters timeout. Out of the break, a kill from Bennett put the Knights at set point, but Pace responded with back-to-back points to tie the set at 24-24.
Refusing to go away quietly, Queens continued to earn multiple set-point opportunities, but the Setters refused to surrender. Following a Pace attacking error that gave Queens a 27-26 set-point opportunity, junior
Olivia Hyman recorded her first kill of the match as the Knights earned a 28-26 third-set victory to keep the match alive.
The Setters opened the fourth set with a 3-2 lead before back-to-back kills from Hyman and a Pace attacking error put the Knights ahead, 5-3.
However, Pace answered with a 7-2 run to take a 10-7 lead, forcing a Queens timeout.
Out of the break, the Knights were unable to respond as Pace closed out the fourth set to earn the four-set victory.

- Sercu tied for a team-high with seven kills while adding three digs and two blocks.
- Webb matched Sercu with seven kills, two blocks and one dig.
- Haskell notched four kills and a team-high three service aces to go along with two blocks.

Queens continues its road trip on Saturday, Sept. 26, as the Knights travel to Rockville Centre to open East Coast Conference play against Molloy University. First serve is set for noon.
