STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Returning to East Coast Conference play on Saturday, the Queens College softball team traveled to Staten Island for a doubleheader against the College of Staten Island Dolphins at the CSI Softball Complex.
The Dolphins completed the series sweep, earning 4-0 and 2-0 victories over the Knights.
Game One Recap – Queens 0, Staten Island 4
Queens threatened early but was unable to capitalize, leaving two runners stranded in the first inning and another in the third. Staten Island broke through in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to take control of the game.
The Dolphins added an insurance run in the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0. Despite additional chances late, the Knights stranded three runners over the final two innings and fell in the opener.
Game Two Recap – Queens 0, Staten Island 2
Staten Island struck first once again, scoring in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
Queens mounted its best scoring opportunity in the top of the third. Junior
Olivia Wanser (Westbury, N.Y.) drew a walk, and rookie
Kayla Denino (North Babylon, N.Y.) followed with a single. After an infield fly for the first out, sophomore
Mia Pineiro (North Babylon, N.Y.) delivered a single to right-center to load the bases. However, the Dolphins escaped the jam with a double play to preserve their lead.
Junior
Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA.) kept Queens within striking distance in the circle, but missed opportunities proved costly. Staten Island added a late run and held on for the 2-0 victory to complete the sweep.

Queens returns home on Sunday, April 19, hosting Felician University Golden Falcons in non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
