Men’s Tennis Takes Two, Sweeps Adelphi After LIU Thriller

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Continuing to wrap up the regular season, the Queens College men's tennis team hit the road for a pair of matches, earning victories over Long Island University and Adelphi University.
 
On Monday, the Knights traveled to Brookville for a cross-divisional matchup against LIU, securing a thrilling 4-2 victory as junior Said Akbarov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) clinched the match at No. 2 singles.
 
Queens carried that momentum into Tuesday's non-conference showdown against Adelphi, delivering a dominant 7-0 sweep. The Knights captured two of three doubles matches before sweeping all six singles courts to complete the series sweep.
 
With the wins, Queens improves to 19-2 overall.

Doubles Play

Queens took an early 2-0 advantage in doubles action. At No. 3, Akbarov and junior David Cerne (Ljubljana, Slovenia) earned a 6-2 victory over Spyr. Papageorgiou and Leo Silverston.
 
The Knights secured the doubles point at No. 2 as junior Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and sophomore Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) defeated Thomas Horsley and Louca Bertone, 6-4.
 
Adelphi claimed the No. 1 doubles match to avoid the sweep.

Singles Play

Senior Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) extended Queens' lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Andrea Albiero at No. 4.
 
Senior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Bertone at No. 1 to give the Knights a 3-0 edge.
 
Andersson clinched the match at No. 3, battling to a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Papageorgiou.
 
Queens completed the sweep with victories at the remaining courts, including three-set wins at No. 2 and No. 5, and a straight-set win at No. 6, securing their 19th victory of the season.

NEXT UP

Queens concludes the regular season in East Coast Conference play on Friday, April 17, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
