No. 35 Queens Captures 20th Win with 4-3 Senior Day Victory Over Spartans

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Wrapping up the regular season on Friday afternoon, the No. 35 Queens College men's tennis team hosted No. 48 St. Thomas Aquinas College at the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble in their final East Coast Conference matchup of the year.
 
Queens secured a hard-fought doubles point before claiming three singles matches, as junior Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) clinched the victory at No. 3 singles to lift the Knights to a 4-3 win.
 
With the victory, Queens improves to 20-2 overall and finishes ECC play at 5-1.
 
Prior to the match, head coach Somadi Druker and the Knights honored their two graduating seniors, Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France), in a Senior Day ceremony.

Doubles Play

Queens jumped out to a 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point at No. 3 court as junior Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and sophomore Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) defeated Ondrej Sramek and Victor Tauson, 6-3.
 
The Spartans evened the score at No. 1 doubles, where the senior duo of Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and  Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) fell 5-7 to Theo Renoux and Henry Ronnberg.
 
The decisive match came at No. 2 doubles, where junior Said Akbarov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and sophomore Adam Laur (Boulogne Billancourt, France) rallied back against Nagamitsu Kuroda and Don Vinz Lominoque to force a tiebreak after trailing early. The pair dug deep to secure a 7-6 (7-5) victory, giving Queens the early advantage heading into singles play.

Singles Play

Sophomore Ismoil Khayriddinov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Tauson at No. 6 singles.
 
Linck followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sramek at No. 5, pushing the Knights ahead 3-0.
 
Andersson sealed the match at No. 3 singles, defeating Don Vinz Lominoque 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the 4-3 victory for Queens.
 
St. Thomas Aquinas picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 singles.
