Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 22 Knights Stay Perfect, Set Program Record with 11th Straight Win

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing East Coast Conference play Saturday afternoon, the No. 22 Queens College men's tennis team welcomed the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds to the QC Outdoor Tennis Courts.
 
The Knights swept all nine matches on the afternoon, with senior Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) clinching the victory at No. 2 singles.
 
With the win, Queens improves to 11-0 overall and 2-0 in ECC play. Under head coach Somadi Druker, the Knights have set a new program record for the best start to a season with 11 straight wins, matching the program's all-time winning streak previously set during the 2009-10 season.

DOUBLES PLAY

With the Firebirds short one player, Queens entered doubles play needing just one victory to secure the doubles point.
 
At No. 2 doubles, senior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and junior Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) defeated Alexander Lee and Ignacio Fernandez, 6-0, to clinch the point.

SINGLES PLAY

Sophomore London Mosquera (Queens, N.Y.) opened singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Fernandez at No. 4 singles to give the Knights a 3-0 lead.
 
Martin-Gibiard secured the match at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ambrose Evamy.
 
senior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain)  followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Elouan Queguiner at No. 1 singles to extend the lead to 5-0.
 
Sophomore Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) made it 6-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lee at No. 5 singles.
 
Sophomore Andres Urquiola (Tarija, Bolivia) completed the sweep at No. 3 singles, defeating Filippo Vatteroni 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4), as Queens earned its 11th win of the season and remained unbeaten in conference play.

NEXT UP:

Queens hits the road for the first time this season on Saturday, March 28, traveling to Amherst, N.Y. for an ECC matchup against Daemen University Wildcats. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
