Perfect Start Continues as No. 22 Men’s Tennis Blanks Daemen

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Opening East Coast Conference play Friday afternoon, the No. 22 Queens College men's tennis team welcomed the Daemen University Wildcats to the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble, earning a dominant 7-0 victory.
 
The Knights swept all nine matches on the afternoon, with sophomore Pablo Serrano (Cochabamba, Bolivia) clinching the win at No. 3 singles.
 
With the victory, Queens improves to 10-0 overall and 1-0 in ECC play. Under head coach Somadi Druker, the Knights have opened the season 10-0 for the second time in program history and for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

DOUBLES PLAY

Queens took control early by sweeping doubles competition to earn the opening point.
 
At No. 1 doubles, senior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and junior Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) defeated Alex Lumanog and Lasse Mergens, 6-3.
 
The No. 2 pair of junior David Cerne (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Serrano secured a 6-2 victory over Lucas Garcia and Mitch Pollack, while the No. 3 duo of sophomores Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and sophomore Ismoil Khayriddinov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) completed the sweep with a 6-3 win over Jordan Hamdan and Vondin Henderson.

SINGLES PLAY

In singles action, junior Caleb Brightman (Pawling, N.Y.) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lumanog at No. 1 singles, and sophomore Andres Urquiola (Tarija, Bolivia) followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2 to give Queens a 3-0 advantage.
 
Serrano clinched the match at No. 3 singles, defeating Mergens 6-1, 6-2.
 
At No. 4 singles, Khayriddinov posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Pollack, while sophomore London Mosquera (Queens, N.Y.) earned a 6-2, 6-1 win against Hamdan at No. 5.
 
Sophomore Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) completed the sweep at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Riley Fitzgerald.

NEXT UP:

Queens concludes its three-match week on Saturday, March 21, welcoming the University of the District of Columbia in ECC play. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
