Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Queens Earns Ninth Straight Win, Defeats Chestnut Hill 6-1

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing regional competition, the No. 19 nationally ranked Queens College men's tennis team welcomed the Chestnut Hill College Griffins to the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble for non-conference action.
 
The Knights secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 before taking five singles matches, as sophomore Andres Urquiola (Tarija, Bolivia) clinched the victory at No. 5 singles to lead Queens to a 6-1 win.
 
With the victory, Queens improves to 9-0 on the season.

DOUBLES PLAY

Queens opened the afternoon by winning two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
 
At No. 3 doubles, junior David Cerne (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and sophomore London Mosquera (Queens, N.Y.) cruised to a 6-0 victory over Alessio Lefebvre and Augustin Daubannay.
 
The Knights clinched the doubles point at No. 2 as junior Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and sophomore Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) defeated Enzo Puppi and Filippo Relecom, 6-2.
 
Chestnut Hill avoided the sweep at No. 1 doubles, where senior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and junior Said Akbarov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) fell to Noah Cutting and Pablo Cervera in a tight match, 7-6 (7-2).

SINGLES PLAY

Carrying momentum into singles, Queens clinched the match by winning four straight contests.
 
Andersson earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Cervera at No. 2 singles before Linck followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Lefebvre at No. 3 to give the Knights a 3-0 advantage.
 
Queens secured the match at No. 5 singles, as Urquiola defeated Relecom, 6-1, 6-3, to put the Knights ahead 4-0.
 
Junior Caleb Brightman (Pawling, N.Y.) added the fifth point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Puppi at No. 4 singles.
 
The Griffins picked up their lone point at No. 1 singles, where Foix Sotos dropped a three-set battle to Cutting, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (12-10).
Sophomore Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) losed the match at No. 6 singles, outlasting Daubannay in a three-set marathon, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7), to seal the 6-1 victory for the Knights.

NEXT UP:

Queens returns to action on Friday, March 20, opening East Coast Conference play at home against Daemen University Wildcats. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
