FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to regional competition, the nationally ranked No. 27 Queens College men's tennis team welcomed the Franklin Pierce University Ravens to the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble for non-conference action.
The Knights delivered a dominant performance, sweeping all nine matches on the day to improve to 7-0 on the season.
DOUBLES PLAY
Queens opened the afternoon at No. 3 doubles as the sophomore duo of
Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and sophomore
Ismoil Khayriddinov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) defeated Daniel Garcia and Martin Cerdeira, 6-3.
The Knights secured the doubles point at No. 2 as juniors
Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and junior
David Cerne (Ljubljana, Slovenia) earned a 6-2 victory over Orlando Guerrero and Marc Pronchatov.
Queens completed the doubles sweep at the top spot, where the tandem of sophomore
Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) and junior
Said Akbarov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) posted a 6-3 win over Ruben Merchan and Mathias Bonnefond.
SINGLES PLAY
Promoted to the top singles position, sophomore
Adam Laur (Boulogne Billancourt, France) opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Merchan.
Akbarov followed with his first singles win of the season, defeating Garcia 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore
London Mosquera (Queens, N.Y.) clinched the overall match for the Knights with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Pronchatov.
Sophomore
Andres Urquiola (Tarija, Bolivia), making his singles debut at No. 3, earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Guerrero.
At No. 5 singles, sophomore
Pablo Serrano (Cochabamba, Bolivia) battled to a 6-3, 7-6
(7-5) win over Cerdeira before junior
Caleb Brightman (Pawling, N.Y.) completed the sweep at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Bonnefond.
