FLUSHING, N.Y. – Opening their three-match week, the Queens College men's tennis welcomed Thomas Jefferson University Rams to the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble for a non-conference contest.
It would be a convincing victory for the Knights as they won matches at court #2 and #3 to take an early 1-0 lead before winning five singles matches to earn a 6-1 victory over the Rams and complete the series sweep.
With the victory, Queens improves to 9-4 overall.
DOUBLES PLAY
The Knights got off to a quick start as the #3 doubles pair of junior
Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and sophomore
Loup Alleno (Paris, France) knocked off Ayan Mehra and Johary Rabetrano to the score of 6-0.
The visitors would tie the doubles contest as the #1 pair of sophomore
Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and rookie
Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) fell 6-4 against Enrique Soto Ballester and Anthony Moukarzel.
Queens would clinch the doubles point as the #2 pair of junior
Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) and rookie
Adam Laur (Boulogne Billancourt, France) earned a 6-4 victory over Jules Thibault and Antonio Mateos Melenchon to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
SINGLES PLAY
The Knights would take a 2-0 lead as Laur at #6 leading his match against Rabetrano to the score of 6-0, 4-2 won by retirement as Rabetrano retired due to injury.
Foix Sotos put the Knights in a commanding lead of 3-0 as the junior earned a quick 6-3, 6-0 victory over Mario Antonio Marales at #1 singles.
Queens would clinch the match at #4 court at Martin-Gibiard earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Mateos Melenchon.
Linck at #5 court would give Queens their fifth point of the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Soto Ballester.
In a thrilling back-and-forth contest at #2 court, Alleno would rally back against Moukarzel earning a 7-5, 6-4 victory for Queens' sixth and final point of the day.
In the final match at #3 court between Andersson against Thibault, it would be another back-and-forth contest which led to a three-set marathon that was ultimately decided in a tiebreaker. Andersson would win the first set 6-1 before dropping the second set to the score of 2-6. In the final set, both Andersson and Thibault would trade points before the outcome of the match was decided in the tiebreaker which saw Andersson drop a hard-fought match to the final score of 6-7
(6-8) as Jefferson earned their lone point of the day.
