Druker Reaches 150 Career Wins as #48 Men’s Tennis Sweeps Daemen Saturday Evening in ECC Play

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Concluding their three-match week in Williamsville, the nationally-ranked #48 Queens College men's tennis team matched up against Daemen University Wildcats for an East Coast Conference contest at the Miller Tennis Courts Saturday evening.
 
With the Wildcats short of a full squad, the Knights opened the match up 1-0 and needed one doubles court and two singles courts to clinch the victory. Queens would go on to sweep the match with birthday boy rookie Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) clinching the match at #4 court for a 7-0 victory.
 
With the victory, Queens improves to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in ECC play.

COACHING CAREER MILESTONE

Leading the Knights in her 217 career match, 11th-year head coach Somadi Druker amassed 150 career wins becoming the second coach in program history to complete the milestone. Druker stated "Reaching 150 wins is a reflection of the incredible players, staff, and support I've had along the way. I'm proud of the journey, but even more excited for what's still ahead."

DOUBLES PLAY

Already up 1-0 in doubles, the #2 rookie pair of Pablo Serrano (Cochabamba, Bolivia) and London Mosquera (Queens, N.Y.) defeated Lucas Garcia Angarita and Rohan Chitanand to the score of 6-2 to officially clinch the doubles points.
 
The #1 pair of junior Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) and sophomore Caleb Brightman (Pawling, N.Y.) earned a 6-3 victory over Juan Alvarez and Jayvan Williamson to close out the doubles action.

SINGLES PLAY

Leading 2-0, Mosquera would sweep Vondin Henderson at #5 court to the score of 6-0, 6-0 to put Queens up 3-0.
 
Queens would clinch the match at #4 court as rookie Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Williamson.
 
Junior Viktor Ek Johansson (Stockholm, Sweden) defeated Garcia Angarita to the score of 6-2, 6-3 at #2 court to earn the Knights their fifth point of the evening.
 
Serrano promoted to #3 court would knock off Chitanand to the score of 6-3, 6-2 as Queens clinched their sixth point of the match.
 
In the final match of the evening junior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) earned a hard fought three-set victory over Alvarez at #1 court to the score of 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (10-4) to complete the 7-0 sweep for the Knights.

NEXT MATCH

Head coach Somadi Druker and the Knights continue the road stand on Tuesday, Apr. 15 in Waltham, Mass. as they match up against Bentley University Falcons in non-conference play. The first serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
