BUFFALO, N.Y. – With the series tied 1-1, the Queens College softball team concluded their four-game East Coast Conference series against the Saints of D'Youville University at Dobson Field Friday afternoon.
In game one Queens would tie the game 2-2 before the home side took a 7-2 lead, but a late rally would fall short as the Knights left nine base runners to drop the third game of the series to the score of 8-2. In the nightcap, the Knights took a 2-0 lead but the Saints would score 10 unanswered runs to complete the Friday sweep to the final score of 10-2.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Knights totaled eight hits as they were led by multi-hit performances from sophomore shortstop
Kadie Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) (3-4 AB, RBI, R), and senior
Caroline Pescatore (North Babylon, N.Y.) (2-4 AB, RBI) as they combined for five hits, two RBI and one run scored.
While the trio of sophomore left fielder
Sienna Denino (North Babylon, N.Y.) (1-4 AB), rookie second baseman
Mia Pineiro (North Babylon, N.Y.) (1-3 AB) and junior right fielder
Brianna Call (Fishkill, N.Y.) (1-3 AB) combined for three hits and one run driven in.
The Saints took a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning before Queens answered back in the top of the second. As senior center fielder
Amanda Baez (Selden, N.Y.) earned a walk, a single from Cain would advance Baez to second base before runners stole third and second base to get into scoring position. As the Saints got the first out, a RBI single to left field from Pescatore would drive home Baez. Queens would load the bases as Pineior earned a walk but as the Saints got the second out, junior first baseman
Allie Parascandola (East Quoque, N.Y.) would earn a six-pitch walk to tie the game at 2-2. But the Saints leave the bases loaded to avoid further trouble.
With the tied game 2-2, D'Youville answered once again using four hits and a fielding error to take a 5-2 lead.
As the Knights left a runner stranded over the next three innings of play, the Saints would take a 7-2 lead after five complete innings of play.
The Knights would get a run back in the top of the sixth behind a RBI single from Pineiro but once again two runners would be left stranded on base as the Saints avoid further trouble.
D'Youville would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth as the Knights trailed by five, 8-3 heading into the top of the seventh.
A RBI single from Cain would bring home Queens' fourth run of the day but the Saints' defense would off the late rally to defeat the Knights to the final score of 8-4.
GAME TWO RECAP
Queens opened the nightcap with a bang as Baez delivered a two-run shot to right field to take an early 2-0 lead.
However, the Knights would be limited to just three base runners over the next five innings of play while the Saints offense erupted for a doubleheader-high 10 runs scored to complete the Friday sweep to the final score of 10-2.

The Knights return to QC Softball Field on Sunday, Apr. 13 as they welcome the Mavericks of Mercy University for an ECC doubleheader. The first pitch is set for noon.
