#46 Men’s Tennis Solid in ECC Victory over STAC Friday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Making a quick stop in Flushing, the Queens College men's tennis team continued East Coast Conference action as they welcomed the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College to the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble.

In the latest ITA National Rankings released Wednesday afternoon head coach Somadi Druker and her Knights moved up three spots to be ranked #46 in the country.
 
Queens would quickly earn the double points winning at #3 and #2 courts before the Knights clinched the match by winning four singles with junior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) clinching the victory at #1 singles as Queens earned a thrilling 5-2 victory over the Spartans.
 
With the victory, Queens improves to 7-3 and 2-1 in ECC action.

DOUBLES PLAY

The Knights would take an early lead in doubles play as the #3 duo of junior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and sophomore Loup Alleno (Paris, France) knocked off Ondrej Sramek and Erik Victor Tauson to the score of 6-3.
 
Queens would clinch the doubles points as the #2 duo of Sophomore Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and rookie Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) defeated Nagamitsu Kuroda and Don Lominoque to the score of 6-4.
 
The Spartans would earn the doubles victory at #1 court as the nationally ranked pair of #51 of Seth Newman and Henry Ronnberg defeated Queens pair of junior Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) and rookie Adam Laur (Boulogne Billancourt, France) to the score of 7-5.

SINGLES PLAY

Heading into singles play up 1-0, Queens would waste little in clinching the victory as Andersson earned a two-set victory over Lominoque to the score of 6-1, 6-3 at the #3 court.
 
Alleno at #2 court would put Queens up 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lorenzo Meschini.
 
Foix Sotos would complete his afternoon with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Newman at #1 singles as Queens clinched the victory with their fourth point of the afternoon.
 
Laur fell at #6 singles against Ronnberg to the score of 6-3, 6-3.
 
Queens would earn their fifth victory of the afternoon as Martin-Gibiard rallied from a first-set defeat of 2-6 against Tauson at #4 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the final two sets.
 
The Spartans would earn their second point of the afternoon as Linck fell in a three-set battle against Sramek at #5 singles as the rookie won the first set to the score of 7-6 (7-4) before dropping the final two sets to the score of 6-1 and a 10-5 third set decider. 

NEXT MATCH

Head coach Somadi Druker and the Knights take a break from conference play as they travel to Garden City, N.Y. on Saturday, Mar. 29 for another battle against the Panthers of Adelphi University in non-conference play. The first serve is set for noon.
