Osterhoudt Records Team-High 13 Kills as Women’s Volleyball Concludes Homestand

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Concluding a four-match homestand on Sunday, the Queens College women's volleyball team welcomed the Daemen University Wildcats to Fitzgerald Gymnasium for East Coast Conference action.
 
The Knights were paced by the senior duo of middle blocker Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, Fla) and outside hitter Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA), who combined for 25 kills on the afternoon. Despite the strong effort, Queens battled through four competitive sets before ultimately falling to the Wildcats to close out the weekend's play.

MATCH RECAP: Queens 1, Daemen 3 (25-21, 21-25, 14-25, 23-25)

Daemen led early as they took a 12-6 lead before a kill from rookie setter Kylynn White (Chicago, IL) sparked a 9-0 run for Queens. During the stretch, the Knights recorded three blocks, while Osterhoudt tallied two kills and White added an ace to give Queens a 15-12 advantage.
 
As the Wildcats pulled within one at 16-15, the duo of Osterhoudt and Conrad helped the Knights extend their lead to 22-16. Daemen rallied again to close the gap to 23-21, but a kill from senior middle blocker Maya Angelova (Kyustendil, Bulgaria) and an ace from sophomore libero Asuka Shibue (Tochigi, Japan) sealed the 25-21 win, giving Queens a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Both sides traded points early in the second set, reaching a 10-10 tie before Queens went on a 10-1 run to take a 15-6 lead. However, the Wildcats answered back with an 11-2 run to even the score at 17-17.
 
A double block from Conrad and Angelova helped Queens regain the edge at 21-19, but Daemen closed with a 6-0 run to take the set 25-21 and even the match at one set apiece.
 
In the third set, errors proved costly for the Knights as Daemen capitalized to take control and earn a 25-14 win, moving ahead 2-1 in the match.
 
Looking to force a decisive fifth set, Queens opened the fourth with a 4-2 lead, but Daemen responded with a 4-0 run to go up 6-4. The Knights continued to battle, staying within two at 16-14, before a 5-0 Wildcats run extended their lead to 21-14.
 
Queens went down fighting, rallying to tie the set at 23-23 behind four combined kills from Osterhoudt and Conrad, but Daemen ultimately closed it out with a 25-23 victory to secure the 3-1 match win on Sunday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Osterhoudt paced the offense with a match-high 13 kills on a .391 hitting percentage, while adding five blocks and three digs.
  • Conrad followed closely with 12 kills, contributing two blocks and two digs.
  • White filled the stat sheet with 27 assists, six digs, five kills, and added one service ace and one block.
  • Angelova anchored the front line with four kills, six blocks, two assists, and one dig.

Next Match

The Knights open a two-match road stand on Saturday, November 8, traveling to Rochester, N.Y., for a crucial East Coast Conference matchup against the Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks. First serve is set for noon.
