White and Osterhoudt Highlight Women’s Volleyball Four-Set Battle Against Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Opening a two-match road stand on Saturday afternoon, the Queens College women's volleyball team faced the Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks inside the Voller Athletic Center in East Coast Conference play.
 
Rookie setter Kylynn White (Chicago, IL) led the Knights with her ninth career double-double, tallying 13 kills and 16 assists, while senior middle blocker Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, Fla) added 10 kills on an impressive .500 hitting percentage. Despite their efforts, Queens fell in four sets as Roberts Wesleyan earned a 3–1 victory.

The opening set saw early back-and-forth action before the Redhawks used a 10–5 run to pull ahead 18–9. The Knights attempted a late rally, closing the gap to 22–17, but Roberts Wesleyan held on for a 25–19 win to take a 1–0 match lead.
 
Queens responded strongly in the second set. Trailing 4–2, the senior duo of middle blocker Maya Angelova (Kyustendil, Bulgaria) and outside hitter Elizabeth Cerullo (Saint James, N.Y.) sparked a 6–0 run that put the Knights up 8–4.
 
With contributions from White and Osterhoudt, Queens maintained the edge for most of the set.
 
After the Redhawks tied it late at 21–21, a kill from Osterhoudt and a service ace from sophomore defensive specialist Olivia Hyman (Forest Hills, N.Y.) pushed the Knights ahead 23–21. But the Redhawks would battle back to tie the set, before a kill from senior setter Jayna Marie Lorenzo (Rodeo, CA) put the Knights at 24-23, but the Redhawks would tie the set once again at 24-24.
 
Queens would tie the match at 1-1 as back-to-back Redhawks errors sealed a 26–24 fourth set victory.
 
Roberts Wesleyan opened the third set on a 4–0 run before Queens rallied to tie it at 7–7. The Knights later went ahead 17–15 after a 9–4 stretch led by White, but the Redhawks closed the frame on a strong run to win 25–21 and reclaim a 2–1 match advantage.
 
In the fourth, both teams traded points early to a 7–7 tie before the Redhawks surged ahead with a 6–0 run.
 
Queens continued to fight, erasing multiple deficits to knot the score at 18–18, but Roberts Wesleyan closed out the match with a 7–1 finish to take the final set 25–19 and the match 3–1.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • White tallied her ninth career double-double with 13 kills and 16 assists to go with six digs, one block, and one service ace.
  • Osterhoudt tallied 10 kills on a hitting percentage of .500 to go with three blocks and two service aces.
  • Angelova recorded nine kills on a hitting percentage of .471 to go with four blocks.
  • Marie Lorenzo recorded 18 kills, six digs, two blocks, and three kills.
  • Sophomore libero Asuka Shibue (Tochigi, Japan) recorded a career-best 27 kills and six assists.

Next Match

The Knights conclude their road stand on Wednesday, November 15, traveling to Dobbs Ferry for a matchup against the Mercy University Mavericks. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
