FLUSHING, N.Y. – Looking to book their first trip back to the NCAA Women's Tennis Round of 16 for the first time since the 2018-19 season, the Queens College women's tennis team earned the #1 seed in the East Region as they played host to one half of the East Region bracket from May 10-May 11 inside the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble.

Alan Nagel and his Knights ranked #37 in the ITA National Rankings and #1 seed in the NCAA East Region matched up against #5 seed Adelphi University Panthers Saturday afternoon.
The Knights would earn doubles points at the #1 and #3 courts to take an early lead of 1-0 before the singles courts of #6, #4 and #3 clinched the match as Queens earned the victory to the final score of 4-0 and advanced to the Sweet 16.
It is the Knights' ninth appearance in the Sweet 16 and first time since the 2018-19 season.
With the win, the Knights improved to 14-4 overall on the year.
Doubles Play
Queens got off to a roaring start in doubles action as the #46 nationally ranked team of senior
Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and junior
Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) matched up against #36 team of Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd. The Knights pair would avenge the early season loss against the Panthers #1 pair as Queens took an early lead of 1-0 with a 6-0 shutout victory.
The Knights would clinch the doubles point as the #3 pair of senior
Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) and graduate student
Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) defeated Carolina Chaves and Elisabeth Seyfarth to the score of 6-1.
The #2 doubles action between graduate student
Eva Rivoal (Saint Denis de Pile, France) and sophomore
Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) against Caterina Federici and Astrid Bergh went unfinished.
Singles Play
Bergmann would put the Knights up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Seyfarth at the #6 court.
Queens would take a commanding lead of 3-0 as Lamy knocked off Federici at the #4 court to the score of 6-1, 6-1.
One match away from booking their ninth trip to the Sweet 16, junior Berggren would clinch the match at the #5 court as the Sweden native defeated Chaves to the score of 6-1, 6-3 as Queens earned the 4-0 victory.
The singles matches at #1, #2, and #3 went unfinished.
Nagel and the Knights will now await their next opponent with the Championship Finals taking place in Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida from May 20 – May 24.
