Game Day Preview: Five Doubleheaders in Six Days Slated for Softball as Week Begins in New Hampshire in Non-Conference Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. – It will be an eight-game week for the Queens College Softball team as the Knights get set for four games in New Hampshire before concluding the week in East Coast Conference play.
 
Queens travels to New Hampshire in a two-day trip beginning with a stop in Manchester against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday (Apr. 10) afternoon before concluding the trip against the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on Thursday (Apr. 11) afternoon.
 
It will be short rest for the Knights as they will host defending ECC Champions Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday (Apr. 12) afternoon before traveling to Dobbs Ferry on Saturday (Apr. 13) afternoon against the Mavericks of Mercy University to conclude their four-game series.
 
Following a rest day on Sunday, the Knights will wrap up their ECC series against the Spartans on Monday (Apr. 15) afternoon in Sparkill.

Scouting the Knights (10-11 Overall, 4-2 ECC Record)

  • Head coach Amy Delmore and the Knights enter the week with an overall record of 10-11 and 4-2 in ECC play. The Knights are coming off a 2-2 weekend having earned a DH split against D'Youville in ECC play and a non-conference split against Felician
  • Freshman utility Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA) leads the way on both sides of the field as the rookie holds a team-high .382 batting average with 21 hits, seven doubles, three home runs, six runs scored, four walks to go with 17 RBI.
    • In the circle, the rookie has recorded a team-high seven wins in 74.0 innings allowing 78 hits, 25 earned runs, 24 walks, and has struck out 60 batters with an ERA of 2.36.
  • Campbell has been named to the ECC Weekly Report Sheet on five separate occasions.

  • While senior first baseman Jenny Murphy (East Islip, N.Y.) is having an excellent year to cap off her Knights career batting .290 with 18 hits, one double, three home runs, one walk, eight runs scored to go with 16 RBI on the year.

Southern New Hampshire University Penmen Preview (12-12 Overall)

Last Win: 6-1 (N, 3/8/14)
Last Loss: 2-12 (H, 3/18/23)
  • SNHU enters the week with an overall record of 12-12 and are coming off an NE10 split against Saint Anselm College on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Wednesday's meeting will be the second straight series meeting against the Penmen and the first series in Manchester with the Knights trailing the series 1-3. Last year the Penmen earned the sweep in Flushing on March 18.
  • Peyton Feldman leads the offense batting .393 with 33 hits, seven doubles, 11 RBI, three walks, and 13 runs scored.
  • While Ari Ferrier is batting .316 with 18 hits, six doubles, one triple, two home runs, 15 RBI, five walks, and nine runs scored.
  • In the circle, Leine McKechnie leads the pitching staff having earned a team-high four wins in 56.0 innings pitched allowing 52 hits, 22 earned runs, 20 walks, and has struck out 37 batters.

Franklin Pierce University Ravens Preview (13-9 Overall)

  • Franklin Pierce enters the week with an overall record of 13-9 and are coming off an NE10 split vs. St. Michael's on Tuesday afternoon.
  • It will be the second straight series in three years against the Ravens in Rindge with the Knights trailing the series 1-3.
  • Ashley Cangiano leads the offense batting .269 with 18 hits, four doubles, three triples, three home runs, 21 RBI, eight walks, and 16 runs scored.
  • While Bella Williams is batting .328 with 22 hits, five doubles, one triple, 11 RBI, one walk, and 13 runs scored.
  • In the circle, Sabrina Gonzalez leads the pitching staff having earned a team-high six wins in 54.1 innings pitched allowing 50 hits, 10 earned runs, 13 walks, and has struck out 31 batters.

St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans Preview (18-16 Overall, 7-1 ECC)

Last Loss: 1-3 (N, 5/5/23)
  • The Spartans enter the week with an overall record of 18-16 and will match up against Pace University before traveling to Flushing to face the Knights on Friday (Apr. 12) afternoon.
  • The Knights lead the overall series 41-32 but have been led winless in the last 17 games against the Spartans.
  • Queens is looking for their win over the Spartans since the 2018 season when they earned a DH split in Flushing on April 22, 2018.
  • Eliana Raposo leads the offense with a team-high batting average of .390 with 41 hits, nine doubles, four triples, three home runs to go with 31 RBI, 25 runs scored, and six walks.
  • While Elyse Marcano holds a batting average of .368 with 42 hits, seven doubles, five triples, one home run, 21 RBI, nine walks and 16 runs scored.
  • In the circle, Raposo has totaled a team-high 10 wins in 105.2 innings allowing 133 hits, 53 earned runs, 39 walks, and has struck out 47 batters.

Mercy University Mavericks Preview (9-17 Overall, 3-5 ECC)

  • The Mavericks enter the week with an overall record of 9-17 and will match up against Molloy University before hosting the Knights on Saturday.
  • The Knights lead the overall series 43-25 and are 18-14 in Dobbs Ferry against the Mavericks since 2000.
  • Queens earned their first sweep over the Mavericks since the 2019 season when they earned the ECC opener DH victory in Flushing on March 21. Queens is looking for their first win in Dobbs Ferry since the 2022 season and their first ECC series victory since the 2016 season when the Knights won the series 3-1.
  • Shannon Sisco leads the team with a team-high batting average of .442 with 34 hits, four doubles, two triples, one home run, nine RBI, two walks, and 19 runs scored.
  • While Samantha Franck is batting .364 with 24 hits, eight doubles, nine home runs, two walks, 18 runs scored, and leads the team with 24 RBI.
  • In the circle, Mackayla Secoda leads the teams with four wins having pitched 55.2 innings allowing 65 hits, 29 earned runs, 21 walks, and has struck out 33 batters.

The Knights will conclude their four-game ECC series against the Spartans in Sparkill on Monday (Apr .15) afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
