WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Continuing their road stand the Queens College men's tennis team made the trip to Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville as they matched up against the Wildcats of Daemen University in an East Coast Conference match.
The Knights would sweep all nine matches for a 7-0 match victory.
With the victory, head coach
Somadi Druker and the Knights clinched the ECC Regular Season Championship and #1 seed to the ECC Men's Tennis Tournament set to take place in two weeks.
The victory improves the Knights to 8-6 overall on the year and 4-1 in ECC play.
Doubles
Queens began the doubles action with the #3 pair of senior
Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) and freshman
Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) defeating Rohan Chitanand and Lasse Mergens to the score of 6-1.
The Knights would clinch the double points as the #2 pair of senior
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) and sophomore
Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) defeated Lucas Garcia and Zachary LaPlante to the score of 6-3.
Queens would complete the doubles sweep at #1 doubles as senior
Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and junior
Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) earned a 6-4 victory over Juan Alvarez and Alex Lumanog.
Singles
In singles play Rikkonen would shut out Alvarez in straight sets to the score of 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles.
At the #4 court freshman
Noah Gauthier (La Colle-sur-Loup, France) would defeat Chitanad to the score of 6-0, 6-1 to put the Knights up 3-0.
Queens would clinch the match at #5 court as Gonzalez defeated Mergens to the score of 6-3, 6-1.
At #2 court Henricy would earn a hard-fought first-set victory over Lumanog to the score of 7-5 before a forfeit gave Queens their fifth victory of the night.
At #3 singles El Shehawey would earn a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Garcia before freshman
David Cerne (Ljubljana, Slovenia) defeated LaPlante to the score of 6-2, 6-3 at #6 singles to complete the sweep.
Next Serve
The Knights conclude the road trip with a stop in Erie, PA on Sunday (Apr. 14) morning as they match up against the Fighting Scots of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
