Softball Concludes New Hampshire Trip at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – A four-game non-conference road trip concluded Thursday evening in Rindge as the Queens College softball team matched up against the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University at Bisaccia SB Complex.

In game one the Knights tallied seven hits with senior first basemen Jenny Murphy (East Islip, N.Y.) (1-2 AB, HR, 2RBI, R, BB) and sophomore shortstop Allie Parascandola (East Quogue, N.Y.) (1-2 AB, RBI) pacing the offense with two and three RBI.

While junior third baseman Emma Zumpol (Patchogue, N.Y.) (1-2 AB, R, BB), freshman utility Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA) (1-1 AB), sophomore Sam Voskinarian (East Northport, N.Y.) (1-2 AB, R), senior catcher Kristina Verruso (Whitestone, N.Y) (1-2 AB) and junior center fielder Amanda Baez (Selden, N.Y.) (1-2 AB) combined for five hits in game one.

While in game two Murphy (1-2 AB, BB) and sophomore Brianna Call (Fishkill, N.Y.) (1-2 AB) recorded the two hits for the Knights.

With the DH loss, Queens moved to 10-15 overall on the year.

The Knights began game one on a strong note as Murphy belted her team-leading fourth home run of the year as Queens took a 2-0 lead after the completion of the top of the first inning.

But fielding errors combined with an offensive outburst by the Ravens would see the Knights fall in game one to the final score of 20-3.

While in the nightcap Queens earned three straight walks to load the bases with no outs. As Zumpol scored on a wild pitch, the Ravens would retire the next batters in a row to keep the other two runners stranded in scoring position.

As Voskinarian retired the first two Ravens batters in a row, the home side would rally with back-to-back singles before a fielding error allowed the Ravens to tie the game at 1-1. As a walk loaded the bases, the sophomore would get the final out by getting the seventh batter to fly out in right field.

The Knights would keep the game tied until the bottom of the fourth inning as the Ravens tacked on eight runs to take a 9-1 lead.

Needing to extend the game, Call began the top of the fifth with a single to right field but the Ravens would retire the next batters in a row to defeat the Knights to the final score of 9-1 Thursday afternoon.

Next Pitch

The Knights return to East Coast Conference play on Friday (Apr. 12) afternoon as the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College come to Flushing. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
