THE Spring Games, FL. – After opening their Sunshine State trip with a 1-1 day on Monday (Mar. 4) evening, the Queens College softball team would conclude the trip with an overall record of 5-4.
Playing in nine games over the course of four days in two different locations, the Knights defeated Thomas More University
(Score: 9-2), Dominican University of New York
(Score: 9-3), Edinboro University
(Score: 7-5), Goldey-Beacom
(Score: 4-2), and Bloomfield College
(Score: 2-1).
Matching up against quality opponents, the offense would tally nine runs on two separate occasions, earn a back-and-forth victory over Edinboro, an extra-inning victory over Goldey-Beacom, and a pitcher's duel victory over Bloomfield to cap off the trip.
Batting
It would be a balanced scoring effort on the Knights' part as every player recorded a hit and RBI led by senior first basemen
Jenny Murphy (East Islip, N.Y.), freshman utility player
Caylea Campbell (Murrieta, CA) senior second baseman
Alyssa Wilkinson (Bayside, N.Y.) and junior center fielder
Amanda Baez (Selden, N.Y.) who combined for 26 hits, 15 runs scored, three doubles, five home runs, and 23 RBI on the trip.
While junior right-fielder
Caroline Pescatore (North Babylon, N.Y.) and junior third baseman
Emma Zumpol (Patchogue, N.Y.) combined for 20 hits, nine runs scored, three doubles, and three RBI.
Pitching
In the circle, it would be an excellent debut for the rookie righty Campbell who led the way recording four wins as the Murrieta native limited the offense to 27 hits, seven earned runs, and six walks, while striking out 24 batters to finish with an ERA of 1.44 in total of 34 innings pitched.
Over the week, she would record a career-high in innings pitched with eight in the extra-inning victory over Goldey-Beacom, struck out a career-high six batters on two separate occasions against Lynn in three innings and Bloomfield in seven innings. In the victory over Bloomfield Campbell would take no-hitter and shutout into the top of the sixth inning to earn her fourth victory of the year.
Senior righty
Arianna Fracchioni (Westbury, N.Y.) made her return to the lineup for the first time since March 18, 2023, and would earn her first victory of the year in the victory over Edinboro.
Next Pitch
The Knights make a local trip to Garden City, N.Y. on Wednesday (Mar. 13) afternoon as they match up against the Panthers of Adelphi University for a non-conference doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
