Five Women’s Tennis Student-Athletes Named to 2024 ECC All-Conference Team

COLONIA, N.J. – On Thursday, Oct. 24 the East Coast Conference announced the 2024 Women's Tennis All-Conference teams and five Queens College women's tennis student-athletes honored All-Conference teams.
 
For the second straight year Head Coach Alan Nagel's squad has earned five All-Conference honorees with one being placed on the First-Team and four on the Second-Team.
First Team All-Conference
10.24 WTEN Hany-Fawzy First Team
Senior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) was the lone Knight to earn a spot on the ECC First Team.
 
It is the senior's third All-ECC honors and second on the first team.
 
Hany-Fawzy produced an excellent fall season as she earned three honor roll spots on the ECC Women's Tennis Weekly Report sheet. In dual play, the senior produced a 5-0 singles record earning victories through #1 singles to #3 singles courts.
Second Team All-Conference
10.24 WTEN Makal Second Team
On Thursday, Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) would make history as the Poland native became the first player in women's tennis program history to earn five All-ECC honors.
 
During the regular season, Makal advanced to the Round of 16 in the ITA East Region Singles and Doubles Championship. While in dual matches the Poland native went 2-1 in doubles play and 2-2 in singles play.
Second Team All-Conference
10.24 WTEN Berggren Second Team
For the second straight season, Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) has All-ECC Second teams honors.
 
Berggren began the fall advancing to the Round of 16 in the ITA East Region Doubles Championship before she produced a 3-0 record in singles play and a 2-1 record in doubles action.
Second Team All-Conference
10.24 WTEN Bergmann Second Team
It would be an excellent outing to end the regular season for graduate student Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) as the Forest Hills native was named to the All-ECC Second Team.
 
During the regular season, Bergmann earned two Honor roll spots on the ECC Women's Tennis Weekly Report Sheet as she produced a 3-1 singles record and a 4-0 record in doubles play.
Second Team All-Conference
10.24 WTEN Ruiz Second Team
In her first year as a Knight junior Regina Ruiz (Mexico City, Mexico) put together a solid campaign to earn All-ECC Second Teams honors.
 
During the regular season, Ruiz began the fall advancing to the Round of 16 in the ITA East Region Singles Championship before finishing ECC singles play with an overall record of 3-0 in singles and doubles play.
 
Queens concluded the fall regular season with a 4-1 record, earned a tri-share of the ECC Regular Season Championship winning four ECC matches, and held the tiebreaker for the #1 seed to the ECC Women's Tennis Championship for their consecutive #1 seed.

NEXT MATCH

The Knights open the ECC Women's Tennis Championship as they match up against #4 seed Daemen University Wildcats inside the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble. The first serve is set for noon.
