FLUSHING, N.Y. – Concluding their fall homestand of the year, the Queens College women's tennis team welcomed the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia to the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble in East Coast Conference play.
The Knights would sweep the doubles before earning five of the six singles to earn a 6-1 victory.
With the win, Queens improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in ECC play.
Doubles Play
With the Firebirds short a player, the Knights needed one doubles victory to clinch the doubles point. The #2 doubles duo of juniors
Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) and
Sixtine Goubet (Lyon, France) earned a 6-1 victory over Lina Benjelloun and Nadja Zmukic to give Queens a 2-0 lead.
Queens would complete the sweep as the #1 duo of senior
Marie Bertran (Villelaure, France) and
freshman
Ela Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) earned a 7-6
(7-4) victory over Celia Bastin and Polina Zelentsova.
Singles Play
Leading 2-0, Bertran would put the Knights up 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Benjelloun at the #3 court.
Goubet would clinch the match for the Knights with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Zelentsova at the #1 court.
At the #2 court, Bizouerne earned the Knights' fifth point of the day with a three-set comeback victory over Bastin with a 1-6, 6-1, 1-0
(10-8).
Sophomore
Johanne Genestay (Dinan, France) would earn Queens' sixth point of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Zmukic at the #5 court.
The Firebirds earned their lone point of the match as senior
Regina Ruiz (Mexico City, Mexico) fell in a three-set battle against Sofia Shaparenko

The Knights conclude the fall semester in Buffalo, N.Y., beginning on Saturday, October 25, as they match up against D'Youville University Saints in ECC play. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
