FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing East regional tennis, the Queens College men's tennis team
(5-2 overall) earned their first shutout victory of the season with a 7-0 sweep over Division 2 East Regional foe Adelphi University
(4-5 overall) Panthers inside the Queens College Tennis Bubble Wednesday afternoon.
In back-and-forth doubles affair to begin the afternoon, Queens took two doubles matches to earn the doubles points before sweeping the singles action to earn their fifth win of the season.
With the win Wednesday afternoon, the Knights have extended their win streak to seven over the Panthers and their 18
th overall in program history since the 2003-04 season.
Queens began the afternoon taking an early lead as the duo of senior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) andjunior
Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) were promoted to #1 doubles against the Panthers.
Demuth and Rikkonen would justify that decision with a 6-3 victory over Marko Jovanovic and Gabriel Balestero.
While the new pair of graduate student
Lluis Miralles Miro (Barcelona, Spain) and senior
Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) teaming up for the first time this spring at #3 doubles earned a back-and-forth 7-5 victory over Hugo Reinoso and Reece Farrow to give Queens an early 1-0 match lead heading into singles play.
While the doubles pair of graduate student
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) and sophomore
Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) moved up to #2 would trade points against Thomas Horsley and Thiago Negrao.
Trailing 4-1, Borges and Henricy would come back to take a 5-4 lead before the Panthers duo forced a tiebreaker and defeated the Knights pair to the score of 7-6
(7-5).
In singles play, Borges would quickly put the Knights up 2-0 with a victory over Viktor Hockl at #5 singles to the score of 6-2, 6-3.
At #4 singles junior
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) gave Queens a commanding lead of 3-0 with a two-set victory over Salomon Arce Lema to the score of 6-1, 6-4.
While sophomore
Philipp Uhde (Heidelberg, Germany) would clinch the match for Queens at #3 singles to the score of 6-4, 6-4 over Balestero.
Rikkonen continued his promotion day as he saw playing time at #1 singles against Jovanovic. The Finland native would take the first set to the score of 7-5 before Jovanovic forced a third set with a 6-4 victory in the second set.
But Rikkonen would end his undefeated day with a 10-5 third set tiebreaker putting Queens two matches away from completing the sweep.
At #6 singles junior
Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) made his spring debut against Farrow. But Gonzalez ensured the first sweep was on track with a 6-4, 7-5 victory as the Knights led 6-0.
Henricy playing at #2 singles would drop the first set to Reinoso to the score of 6-4 before completing his comeback with a 7-5, 10-7 victory to give Queens their first sweep of the season.

Somadi Druker and the Knights will now rest until Wednesday (Mar. 15) afternoon as they get set to play four matches in a row beginning with the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College inside the QC Tennis Bubble. First serve set for 1:00 p.m.
