FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing East regional tennis, the Queens College men's tennis team
(6-2 overall) earned their second straight shutout victory of the season with a 7-0 sweep over Division 2 East Regional foe Chestnut Hill College
(5-3 overall) Griffins inside the Queens College Tennis Bubble Wednesday afternoon.
The Knights wasted no time in clinching the double points before picking up six straight singles victory for their second straight sweep victory of the season.
With the win Wednesday afternoon, the Knights have extended their win streak to sixth over the Griffins and their ninth overall in program history since the 2009-10 season.
Queens began the afternoon taking an early lead as the duo of graduate student
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) and sophomore
Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) returned to the wins column with a 6-2 victory over Tiago Lima and Antonio Franquis at #3 doubles.
The Knights would clinch the doubles point as senior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and graduate student
Lluis Miralles Miro (Barcelona, Spain) dispatched the Griffins duo of Pedro Vicente and Joao Sousa to the score of 6-0 for a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Queens would complete the doubles sweep at #1 doubles as the duo of senior
Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) and junior
Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) defeated the duo of Tom Pitchley and Noah Cutting to the final score of 6-4.
In singles play, junior
Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) would make quick work of Vicente to the score of 6-1, 6-3 at #6 singles for a 2-0 lead.
The Knights would take a commanding lead of 3-0 as senior
Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) earned a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lima at #3 singles.
Queens would clinch the match at #2 court as Demuth picked up a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Pitchely to extend the win streak.
At #4 singles, sophomore
Philipp Uhde (Heidelberg, Germany) earned his second straight victory as he defeated Sousa 6-1 before earning a tiebreaker second set to the score of 7-6
(7-2) giving Queens a 5-0 lead.
At #5 singles junior
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) put the Knights one match away from clinching their second straight sweep as he defeated Franquis to the score of 6-4, 6-4.
At #1 singles, Rashad would drop the first set to the score of 6-3 before forcing a third set tiebreaker with a 6-3 victory over Cutting.
The senior would complete the Knights sweep and his comeback with another 6-3 victory over Cutting as Queens earned their fifth sweep over the Griffins in program history.
