Men’s Tennis Returns to Win Column, Defeats UDC 6-1 in ECC Play

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Hitting the road for the first time since their season opener, the Queens College men's tennis team (10-3 overall, 2-1 ECC) returned to the wins column with a 6-1 East Coast Conference victory over host Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia (4-9 overall, 1-2 ECC) Monday afternoon at UDC Tennis Courts. 
 
Using their doubles points victory, Queens earned five of the singles victories to complete the series sweep over the Firebirds. 
 
In doubles play, the #3 doubles duo of senior Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) and junior Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) earned a 6-2 victory to start the afternoon over Jake Bedforth and Oskar Karos. 
 
Queens would clinch the doubles points as #1 doubles as the doubles duo of graduate student Lluis Miralles Miro (Barcelona, Spain) and senior Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) defeated Louis Mangeon and Mauricio Corty to the score of 6-3. 
 
The Knights would complete the sweep at #2 doubles as the duo of junior Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and sophomore Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) earned a 6-3 victory over Juan Hernandez and Antonio Durall. 
 
The Firebirds would tie the match as Rikkonen fell at #1 singles to Mangeon to the score of 6-3, 6-0. 
 
But Bibiloni would put Queens up 2-1 as he defeated Hernandez to the score of 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles. 
 
Gonzalez would put the Knights up 3-1 as he swept Bedforth to the score of 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles. 
 
Demuth would clinch the match at #3 singles as the senior earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Corty. 
 
Henricy earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at #2 singles over Durall before Miro completed five straight singles victories for Queens at #5 singles over Karos to the score of 6-4, 6-1 as the Knights swept the series over the Firebirds. 
 
UP NEXT: Head coach Somadi Druker and the Knights stay on the road as they travel to Waterbury, CT on Thursday (Mar. 30) afternoon with a non-conference matchup against the Eagles of Post University. First serve set for 1:00 p.m.
