FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team opens a three-game road stand beginning on Wednesday (Feb. 15) evening in non-conference play against the Wildcats of Wilmington University as they travel to Wilmington, Del.
The Knights will then return to East Coast Conference play on Saturday (Feb. 18) afternoon in Rochester, N.Y. as they match up against the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University for the second time this season.
Scouting the Knights
- Queens enters the week with a 7-17 overall record and 4-9 in East Coast Conference play.
- The Knights are looking to end a five-game losing streak having fallen to Staten Island on the road and a home loss to the District of Columbia.
- In the conference standing, Queens is in seventh place behind Staten Island and needs a win to keep their postseason hopes alive.
- The Knights have to go 3-0 in their remaining three conference games and hope Roberts Wesleyan and College of Staten Island lose their remaining conference games.
- In 24 games, Queens is averaging 69.9 points on 40.7% shooting and are averaging 41.6 rebounds and 12.5 assists per game.
- Sophomore Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) leads the offense averaging 15.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
- Diamond has recorded two 24-point scoring efforts this season, both coming against CSI.
- Diamond recorded the Knights first triple-double of the season in the victory over Alliance and the first triple-double since the 15-16 season.
- Diamond is one of six players nationally to record a triple-double this season.
- On Monday (Feb. 13) Diamond has placed on the ECC Honor Roll sheet on five occasions this season. (11/14, 11/28, 12/5, 1/17, 2/13)
- Senior William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) is averaging 10.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
- Ellis notched a season-high 22 points in the victory over Holy Family on Nov. 19.
- Senior Tyler Carey (Bay Shore, N.Y.) is averaging 11.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game in 11 conference games.
- The senior has tallied eight double-doubles on the season.
- Carey has recorded two 20 rebounds performances in a single game this season.
- Carey earned his third ECC Defensive Player of the Week honor on Jan. 30 (Link)

- Ja'Kair Sanchez leads the offense averaging 13.0 points per game.
- Sanchez tallied a season-high 26 points against Mercy on Jan. 6.
