MONSEY, N.Y. – Opening a three-match week with a road trip, the Queens College women's tennis team traveled to Monsey, N.Y. for a non-conference match against the Chargers of Dominican University of New York Monday afternoon at Manny Welder Park.
The Knights would earn the double points winning at #2 and #3 courts before four singles victories saw Queens defeat the Chargers to the final score of 5-2.
With the victory, the Knights improved to 3-0 overall on the season.
Doubles
In doubles play, the #2 doubles court pair of sophomore
Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) and Gr
aduate student
Eva Rivoal (Saint Denis de Pile, France) earned a 6-1 victory over Preeti Koli and Kyle Fouts.
Queens would clinch the doubles point at the #3 court as the pair of junior
Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) and senior
Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) earned a 6-4 victory over the duo of Angelina Amelkina and Lia Sarjveladze to go into singles play up 1-0.
Singles
Needing three singles victories to clinch the match, Fawzy at #3 court would defeat Selina Donecker to the score of 6-2, 6-0 for a 2-0 lead.
Lamy at #4 court would give Queens a commanding lead of 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory over Vanya Tyagi.
Junior
Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) would clinch the match at the #4 singles court over Koli with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Tarbujaru would earn the Knights their fifth victory of the day with an eight game pro-set victory of 8-0 over Sarjveladze.

Alan Nagel and the Knights will now open a two-match home stand beginning on Thursday (Oct. 12) afternoon as they welcome the Chargers of the University of New Haven to Flushing. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
