BUFFALO, N.Y. – Looking to conclude their East Coast Conference slate on a positive note, the Queens College women's tennis team traveled to Buffalo, N.Y. for a two-match stand against the Wildcats of Daemen University and the Saints of D'Youville University over the weekend.
The Knights began the trip with a Friday evening 7-0 sweep over the Wildcats before ending the trip with another sweep as they defeated the Saints 7-0 Saturday night.
With the win, the Knights conclude the fall regular season with an overall record of 7-0 and 5-0 in ECC play.
With an undefeated record in conference play, head coach
Alan Nagel and the Knights clinched their first regular season championship since the 2019 season and earned the #1 seed in the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament.
Friday Match vs. Daemen University
Doubles
To begin doubles play, the #3 doubles pair of junior
Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) and graduate student
Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) earned a quick 6-0 victory over Carly Armitage and Emily Jablonski.
Queens would clinch the doubles points following a victory at #2 doubles court as the duo of sophomore
Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) and graduate student
Eva Rivoal (Saint Denis de Pile, France) earned a 6-1 victory over Yinett Del Leon and Maya Chon for a 1-0 match lead.
The Knights would complete the doubles sweep at #1 doubles court as the pair of senior
Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and junior
Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) earned a 6-4 victory over Frida Rubio and Kitsa Scime.
Singles
The Knights would take a 2-0 lead as senior
Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Armitage at #4 singles.
Queens would go up 3-0 following a victory at #6 singles with Bergmann earning a two-set sweep over Jablonski to the score of 6-0, 6-0.
Lamy would clinch the match at #3 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Leon.
Staying on course Makal defeated Rubio to the score of 6-2, 6-3 at #1 singles for a 5-0 lead.
Queens would take a commanding lead of 6-0 as junior
Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) defeated Scime at #2 singles to the score of 6-1, 6-1.
The Knights would complete the Friday evening sweep as freshman
Kayla Taszymowicz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Chon at #5 singles court.
Saturday Match vs. D'Youville University
Doubles
The duo of sophomore
Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) and graduate student
Eva Rivoal (Saint Denis de Pile, France) would be promoted to #1 doubles and earned a 6-1 victory over the pair of Yuliia Kashtelian and Khushi Agarwal.
While the pair of junior
Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) and senior
Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) were promoted to #2 doubles and earned a shutout victory of 6-0 over Maria Campisi and Paola Ermina.
The #3 doubles pair of junior
Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) and graduate student
Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) completed the doubles with a 6-0 victory over Hannah Flynn and Eliza Prokopenk.
Singles
Taking a 1-0 lead into singles play, Fawzy would be promoted to #1 singles and earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kashtelian.
Lamy at #2 singles would earn a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Agarwal as the Knights took a 3-0 lead.
Junior
Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) at #3 singles would defeat Campisi to the score of 6-0, 6-1 as the Knights clinched the match.
Taszymowicz promoted to #4 singles would earn a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ermina as the Knights took a 5-0 lead.
Bergmann at #5 singles would earn her second sweep of the week with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Flynn.
Freshman
Allycia Santa-Cruz (Queens, N.Y.) made her season dual debut at #6 singles and would earn her first career victory with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Prokopenk as Queens earned their fourth straight ECC series of the year.
