Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's Tennis Defeats Daemen 4-0, Advances to ECC Saturday’s Final

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Entering the East Coast Conference women's tennis championship tournament as the #1 seed, the Queens College women's tennis team matched up against #4 seed Wildcats of Daemen University inside the QC Tennis Bubble for a Friday morning match.
 
Playing to clinch, the Knights would quickly earn the doubles points before earning singles victories at #1, #5 & #6 to advance to Saturday's championship match.
 
With the victory, the Knights improved to 8-0 overall on the year.
 

Doubles Play
 
The #3 doubles pair of junior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) & senior Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) would quickly put the Knights up 1-0 with a 6-0 sweep over the pair of Emily Jablonski and Arianna Lysiak.
 
Queens would clinch the doubles point as the #1 court of senior Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and junior Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) earned the second shutout of doubles play with a 6-0 victory over Frida Rubio and Kitsa Scime.
 
While the #2 doubles pair of sophomore Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) and graduate student Eva Rivoal (Saint Denis de Pile, France) would finish just mere seconds apart as they earned a 6-1 victory over Yinett Del Leon and Carly Armitage.
 

Single Play
 
Looking to clinch the match, the Knights would quickly advance to the finals as Berggren earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jablonski at #5 singles to give Queens a 2-0 lead.
 
Tarbujaru would put the Knights up 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lysiak at #6 singles before Rivoal clinched the match at #1 singles with the Knights' third sweep of singles play to earn a 4-0 victory over Daemen.
 
UP NEXT: Head coach Alan Nagel and the Knights will now await the winner of the semi-final match #2 between St. Thomas Aquinas College & District of Columbia. The Championship match will take place inside the QC Tennis Bubble on Saturday (Oct. 28) afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
