Volleyball Game Day Preview – Second Half Season Begins as Volleyball Looks to Finish Regular Season Strong

FLUSHING, N.Y. -  After going 1-1 on their road trip, the Queens College volleyball team returns to action after a week and a half break.
 
The Knights open a three-match homestand beginning on Thursday (Oct. 19) evening as the Panthers of Adelphi University come to town before the second half of East Coast Conference play opens with the visiting Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University on Sunday (Oct. 22) afternoon.

Queens College Knights Preview (10-6 Overall Record, 4-2 ECC)
  • Head Coach Stefan Leger and the Knights are coming off a week and a half rest having concluded the first half of the season with a 10-6 record and 4-2 in ECC play.
  • Entering the second half of ECC play, the Knights are 4-2 in the standing as they sit in second place.
  • The Knights are led by sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) who has recorded 216 kills (3.38 kps), 26 service aces, 141 digs, and 28 blocks with four double-doubles.
    • Conrad tied a career-high 20 kills to go with 16 in the 3-2 victory over D'Youville (9/24).
    • She would record a career-best four blocks against Holy Family (9/8) and five services against Wilmington (9/9).
    • Conrad was named ECC Player of the Week on September 11
      • On October 2nd, Conrad was awarded a spot on the ECC Honor Roll sheet.
  • Junior Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) has tallied 166 kills (second on the team), to go with 21 service aces, 198 digs, and seven double-doubles on the season.
    • Franco recorded a season-and-career-best 23 kills against Roberts Wesleyan (10/8).
    • The junior notched a season-best 19 digs against Wilmington (9/9).
    • Franco has been named to the ECC Honor Roll sheet three times this season.
      • On October 2nd, Franco was awarded ECC Player of the Week honors.
  • Junior Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) tallied 574 assists, 149 digs, and 25 service aces to go with nine double-doubles on the season.
    • Boudouris recorded a season-and-career-best 56 assists against Roberts Wesleyan (10/8).
    • Boudouris has been named ECC Weekly Award Sheet on three separate occasions earning Setter of the Week (3x), and Honor Roll (2x)
      • On October 2nd, Boudouris was awarded her third Setter of the Week honors.

Adelphi University Preview (14-5 Overall Record)
  • Adelphi enters Flushing with an overall record of 14-5 and are coming off a 3-0 sweep over SCSU Tuesday evening.
  • Thursday's meeting will be the 17th meeting in program history with Queens trailing the series 7-9.
  • It will be the fifth straight meeting against the Panthers as the Knights look to end an eight-game losing streak.
  • Noelle Alberda leads the offense with 169 kills, 36 digs and 38 blocks, while Lilyen McCarthy has recorded 138 kills, and a team-high 70 blocks.

Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks Preview (6-10 Overall Record, 2-4 ECC)
  • Roberts Wesleyan enter the week with an overall record of 6-10 and 2-4 in conference play. The Redhawks will travel to Molloy on Saturday before matching up against the Knights in Flushing on Sunday afternoon.
  • It will be the 22nd meeting between both sides with the Knights trailing the series 8-13.
  • Queens is looking to complete the series sweep having earned a 3-2 victory over the Redhawks in Rochester on Oct. 8.
  • Olivia Price leads the offense having recorded 140 kills, 10 service aces, 118 digs, and 15 blocks, while Morgan Verbridge has tallied 112 kills to go with 49 blocks and 23 digs.

Next Match
The homestand concludes on Wednesday (Oct. 25) evening as the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College come to town.
