WBB Late Rally Falls Short at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, NH – Three Queens College women's basketball players scored in double figures, but a late rally would fall short as the Knights fell 69-63 to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University Saturday Afternoon.  
 
For the third straight game, junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the offense with a team-high 15 points, while sophomore Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 13 points. Sophomore Aalia Carlson (Montclair, N.J.) added 11 points off the bench in the non-conference action at The Fieldhouse.

The Ravens took an early 4-0 lead before freshman Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) and Demry put the Knights on a 7-4 run to get within one, 8-7 with 4:46 left in the first quarter. But the home would close the stanza on a 7-2 run of their own to take a six-point of lead 15-9 into the second quarter.
 
For the second straight quarter, the Ravens opened the scoring to extend their advantage to eight, 17-8 before Carlson added five quick points to bring the Knights within three, 17-14 with 8:38 to go.
 
Franklin Pierce would add another 8-2 run as they took a nine-point lead, 25-16 with 6:26 left until halftime.
 
Having been held scoreless for over three minutes, junior Kendra McPeek (Binghamton, N.Y.) would break the drought for the Knights at the 4:49 mark.
 
After a three-pointer from the Ravens gave them a 10-point lead of 28-18 with 3:55 left in the second quarter, Davis and Reeves would help the Knights close out the second quarter on a 12-4 run as Reeves ended the quarter on a three-point play.
 
Queens would go into halftime trailing by two, 32-30 as they outscored the Ravens 21-17 in the second quarter shooting 50% from the field (9-18). 
 
Demry opened the third quarter notching four quick points as Queens took their first lead of the game of 34-32 with 8:17 left in the third. 
 
But foul trouble would limit the Knights' offense as the Ravens went 7-11 from the charity stripe allowing the home side to end the quarter on a 10-4 run as they took an 11-point lead of 51-40 into the final 10 minutes of play. 
 
Both sides came out sluggish to open the fourth before the Ravens opened the scoring at the 8:31 mark to take a 13-point edge of 53-40.
 
Demry would start a 12-4 run for Queens before Reeves added six straight points to help the visitors get within five, 57-52 with 3:14 to go. 
 
But the Ravens would ice the game at the free throw lane with five straight makes as they held on for the 69-63 victory over the  Knights. 
 
Queens would outscore Franklin Pierce in the fourth 23-18 as they held the Ravens to 28.57% from the field but the home side would go 9-10 from the charity stripe to seal the game. 
 
Game Highlights
  • For the third straight game, Demry led the Knights offense notching a team-high 15 points (6-14 FG), while Reeves recorded 13 points (4-7 FG, 5-6 FT) to go with six rebounds, and one steal. 
  • Off the bench, Carlson added 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-5 3PT), while Davis tallied a near double-double with eight points (4-14 FG), eight rebounds, and two steals. 
  • Graduate student Raven Pitt (Valley Stream, N.Y.) filled the stats sheet as she added seven points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while McPeek tallied seven points with seven rebounds and three assists in the game.
  • The Knights shot 37.1% going 23-62 from the field, while the Ravens shot 39.7% from the field with a 23-58 field goal performance. 
NEXT TIP-OFF: Head coach Bet Naumovski and the Knights return home on Wednesday (Jan. 11) evening in East Coast Conference play as they welcome fellow CUNY member College of Staten Island Dolphins to town. Jump-ball is set for 5:30 p.m.
