Queens Women’s Basketball Awaka Lands on All-Met First Team for Second Straight Year

NEW YORK – On Wednesday, April 15, the Met Basketball Writers Association announced that Queens College junior forward Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) earned All-Met Division II First Team honors.
 
The recognition marks Awaka's second consecutive First Team selection, adding to her East Coast Conference First Team honors this season.
 
Starting in 27 games, Awaka delivered a career year, averaging 15.0 points, 11.6 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.6 blocks, and 1.1 assists per game. The Hyde Park native recorded an ECC-best 19 double-doubles, added five 20-point performances, and grabbed at least 10 rebounds in 19 contests. She totaled 405 points, 314 rebounds, 62 steals, 43 blocks, and 29 assists on the season.
 
Her 314 rebounds rank eighth in program history for a single season.
 
On February 15, Awaka etched her name into the record book, becoming just the 16th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point milestone.
 
Among conference leaders, Awaka finished fourth in scoring, first in rebounding and field goal percentage, 11th in free throw percentage, fifth in steals, and fourth in blocks.
 
Entering her senior season, Awaka has compiled 1,077 career points, 832 rebounds, 409 free throws, 162 steals, 93 blocks, and 29 assists. She currently ranks 12th all-time in scoring, sixth in rebounds, third in free throws made, ninth in blocks, and fifth in steals in program history.
