WASHINGTON, D.C – The Queens College women's basketball team wrapped up its 2025–26 campaign Saturday afternoon, falling to the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia, 71-43, inside the E.B. Henderson Complex in East Coast Conference play.
Junior forward
Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) led the way for the Knights, recording her 19th double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Queens trimmed its deficit to 10 at halftime, but a decisive third quarter by the Firebirds halted the comeback bid.

Queens battled through a challenging opening quarter, trailing 19-6 after the first 10 minutes of play.
The Knights responded in the second quarter behind Awaka and graduate forward
Jordan Tobin (Massapequa, N.Y.), who combined for 11 points in the frame. Defensively, Queens limited the Firebirds to just 26.7 percent shooting from the field, cutting the deficit to 31-21 heading into halftime.
However, UDC opened the second half with a strong third-quarter surge, regaining control. Despite continued effort on both ends of the floor, Queens was unable to chip further into the margin as the Firebirds secured the season series split.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Awaka posted her 19th double-double of the year with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and three steals.
- Rookie guard Enise Hodzic (Queens, N.Y.) recorded six points, four assists, four steals, and two rebounds.
- Sophomore forward Chinyere Ukaegbu (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied five points, eight rebounds, two steals, one block, and one assist.
Under first-year head coach
Travis Ponton, the Knights conclude the 2025–26 season with a 7-21 overall record and a 4-12 mark in ECC play.
