Game Preview: Men’s Basketball Opens Three-Game Homestand on Friday

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team returns to East Coast Conference action as the second half of conference play begins with two straight games. 
 
The Knights welcome the Saints of D'Youville University on Friday (Jan. 27) evening before hosting Daemen University Wildcats on Sunday (Jan. 29) afternoon.
 
D'Youville University Series History

Series Notes:
  • It will be the second meeting of the season and fourth overall against the Saints with Queens leading the series 2-1.
  • The Knights are 1-0 at home as they earned a 63-56 victory in Flushing last season on Feb. 24.
  • Queens will be looking for the series split as they dropped the first game against Saints on Dec. 2.

Series Notes:
  • It will be the second meeting of the season and 20th overall against the Wildcats with Queens trailing the series 3-16
  • The Knights are 2-7 at home against the Wildcats and are looking for their first win in Flushing since the 2015-16 season when they earned a 71-56 victory.
  • Queens will be looking for the series sweep for the first time in program history over the Wildcats after they earned their first road over Daemen in the first meeting of the season. 
Scouting the Knights
  • Queens enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-12 and 3-5 in conference play.
    • The Knights are coming off an 82-56 victory over Mercy College on the road last weekend. 
    • Currently, Queens sit in seventh place in the conference standings with an overall record of 3-5. 
  • Queens is averaging 69.3 points per game on 41.0 % shooting and are averaging 41.6 rebounds and 12.7 assists per game in 18 games played.
  • Sophomore Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) leads the offense averaging 14.1 points per game and recorded a career-high 24 points in the victory over Staten Island
    • Diamond recorded the Knights first triple-double of the season in the victory over Alliance and the first triple-double since the 15-16 season. 
    • Diamond is one of six players nationally to record a triple-double this season.
    • On Tuesday (Jan. 17) Diamond earned his fourth ECC Honor Roll (11/14, 11/28, 12/5, 1/17)
  • Senior Tyler Carey (Bay Shore, N.Y.) is averaging 10.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. 
    • The senior has tallied seven double-doubles on the season.
    • Carey is coming off his seventh double-double with 16 points and a career-high 20 rebounds in the victory over Mercy (Jan. 21) 
    • Carey earned his second ECC Defensive Player of the Week honor on Jan. 23 (Link)
    • On Tuesday (Jan. 24) Carey earned his second MBWA Honorable Mention of the season (Link)
  • In conference play, sophomore Jayden Seraphin (Lakeview, N.Y.) is averaging 11.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
    • Seraphin has tallied double figures in 10 straight games.
    • In the 10 games, Seraphin is averaging 13.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game on 49.5% shooting. 
    • On Monday (Jan. 23) the sophomore earned his first ECC Honor Roll spot. (Link) 
Scouting the Saints
  • D'Youville enters Friday's contest with an overall record of 3-14, 2-6 in conference play.
    • The Saints are on an eight-game losing streak. 
    • D'Youville is ineligible for postseason play this season as they are in their last year of transitioning into Division II.
  • In 17 games, The Saints are averaging 69.2 points per game on 38.3% shooting, 33.8 rebounds, and 11.1 assists per game. 
  • Will Kondrat leads the offense averaging 16.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
    • Kondrat tallied a season-high 30 points against Mercy on Dec. 9.
  • Luke Theisen is averaging 12.4 points per game 
    • Theisen notched a season-high 28 points against Saint Michael's on Nov. 25. 
Scouting the Wildcats
  • Daemen enter New York City with an overall record of 12-6 and 5-3 in conference play.
    • The Wildcats are on a seven-game win streak. 
    • Currently, Daemen sits third in the conference standings with an overall record of 5-3 and will play Molloy on Friday (Jan. 27) before coming to Flushing on Sunday (Jan. 29)
    • In the latest D2SIDA East Region Poll, the Wildcats are ranked eighth. (Link)
  • In 18 games, The Wildcats are averaging 72.2 points per game on 45.6% shooting, 37.1 rebounds, and 14.6 assists per game. 
  • Joey Atkins leads the offense averaging 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
    • Atkins tallied a season-high 19 points against the Knights on Dec. 2
  • Nick MacDonald is averaging 12.2 points per game.
    • MacDonald notched a season-high 20 points against Slippery Rock on Nov. 22. 
Next Jump Ball
  • Head coach Matt Collier and the Knights conclude the homestand as they welcome the Chargers of Dominican University on Thursday (Feb. 2) evening in non-conference play. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
