Game Day Preview: Women’s Basketball Opens the Week in Springfield at AIC

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's basketball team takes a break from conference play as they travel to Springfield, Mass with a match up against the Yellow Jackets of American International College at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium Tuesday afternoon.

Series Notes:
  • It will be the ninth meeting in program history against the Yellow Jackets with the Knights trailing the series 1-7
  • Queens earned their first win in program history last season at home with a 76-70 victory. 
  • It will be the fifth road game in Springfield with Queens searching for their first win on the road against AIC.
Scouting the Knights
  • Queens enters Tuesday's non-conference contest with an overall record of 5-12., 3-4 in ECC play.
    • The Knights are looking to shake off a three-game losing having fallen in three straight losses.
  • In 17 games, Queens is averaging 58.3 points per game on 38.0% shooting, 37.0 rebounds, and 12.2 assists per game. 
  • Sophomore Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 13.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. 
    • Reeves matched a career-high 33 points in the victory over Roberts Wesleyan in conference play on Dec. 9.
    • She has tallied three double-doubles on the season.
    • The sophomore has earned ECC Women's Player of the Week honors on two occasions (Jan. 17 (Link) |  Dec. 12 (Link) )and a Honor Roll spot on Dec. 19 (Link).
    • Reeves has earned two Honorable mentions from the MBWA this season on Dec. 13 (Link), Dec. 20 (Link), and Jan. 17 (Link).
    • In the past six games, Reeves is averaging 15.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game to lead the offense.
  • While junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 9.1 points per game.
    • Demry matched a career-high 24 points against Stonehill (Dec. 29) and team-high 14 points in the victory over Molloy. On Saturday (Jan. 7), the guard added 15 points against Franklin Pierce.
    • On Tuesday (Jan. 3), Demry was awarded ECC Player of the week honors. (Link)
  • Freshman Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) is averaging 10.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in the past six games. 
    • The guard has added back-to-back double-doubles in East Coast Conference play as she notched 11 points and 13 rebounds (career-high) against Molloy (Jan. 4).
    • She would follow that up with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the victory over Staten Island on Wednesday (Jan. 11). 
    • Davis tallied a career-high 16 points against STAC on Wednesday (Jan. 11) evening.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
  • AIC is 11-8 on the season and are riding a five-game win streak. 
    • The Yellow Jackets have not lost since Jan. 8 when they ended a four-game losing skid.
  • In 18 games, they are averaging 60.8 points per game on 39.2% shooting, 32.8 rebounds, and 11.7 assists per game.
  • Taylor Tomlinson leads the offense averaging 17.3 points per game.
    • Tomlinson tallied a season-high 26 points in the victory over Le Moyne (12/6) and Franklin Pierce (1/21).
  • Kayla Robinson is averaging 14.8 points per game.
    • Robinson recorded a season-high 26 points in the victory over St. Michael's (12/3). 
Next Jump Ball
  • Head coach Bet Naumovski and the Knights open the second half of ECC play on Friday (Jan. 27) evening as they welcome the Saints of D'Youville University to Flushing. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
