Game Preview: Women’s Basketball Travels To Dobbs Ferry in ECC Play Against Mercy

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's basketball team continues East Coast Conference play as they hit the road to conclude the week in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. with a matchup against the Mavericks of Mercy College.

Series Notes:
  • It will be the first of two meetings this season with the Knights leading the overall series 36-8.
  • The Knights are 7-3 in the last 10 games against the Mavericks.
  • Queens are looking for their first road win in Dobbs Ferry since the 2018-19 season when they defeated the host 83-73.
  • In Dobbs Ferry, Queens is 17-5 overall since the 2000-01 season.
Scouting the Knights
  • Queens enters Saturday's contest with an overall record of 5-11, 3-4 in ECC play.
    • The Knights are coming off their first loss at home in the New Year with a 50-60 loss to STAC. 
    • Queens are looking for their first road conference victory of the season.
  • In 16 games, Queens is averaging 58.9 points per game on 38.2% shooting, 37.5 rebounds, and 12.3 assists per game. 
  • Sophomore Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 13.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. 
    • Reeves matched a career-high 33 points in the victory over Roberts Wesleyan in conference play on Dec. 9.
    • She has tallied three double-doubles on the season.
    • The sophomore has earned ECC Women's Player of the Week honors on Dec. 12 (Link) and a Honor Roll spot on Dec. 19 (Link).
    • Reeves has earned two Honorable mentions from the MBWA this season on Dec. 13 (Link) and Dec. 20 (Link).
  • While junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 9.4 points per game.
    • Demry matched a career-high 24 points against Stonehill (Dec. 29) and team-high 14 points in the victory over Molloy. On Saturday (Jan. 7), the guard added 15 points against Franklin Pierce.
    • On Tuesday (Jan. 3), Demry was awarded ECC Player of the week honors. (Link)
  • Freshman Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) is averaging 9.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in conference play. 
    • The guard has added back-to-back double-doubles in conference play as she notched 11 points and 13 rebounds (career-high) against Molloy (Jan. 4).
    • She would follow that up with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the victory over Staten Island on Wednesday (Jan. 11). 
    • Davis tallied a career-high 16 points against STAC on Wednesday (Jan. 11) evening.
Scouting the Mavericks
  • Mercy enters Saturday's contest with an overall record of 11-6, 5-2 in conference play.
    • The Mavericks are a riding six-game win streak and are coming off a 52-46 victory over Molloy. 
    • Mercy received one vote in the latest D2Sida poll. (Link)
  • In 17 games on the season, they are averaging 61.0 points per game on 35.5% shooting, 39.5 rebounds, and 10.3 assists per game. 
  • Katie Wall leads the offense averaging 14.2 points per game.
    • Wall tallied a season-high 25 points against Bridgeport on Tuesday (Nov. 22).
  • Taysha Bender is averaging 11.4 points per game.
    • Bender tallied a season-high 30 points against District of Columbia on Saturday (Dec. 3)

  • Head coach Bet Naumovski and the Knights take a break from conference play as they travel to Springfield, Mass with a matchup against the Yellow Jackets of American International College on Tuesday (Jan. 24) afternoon. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
