BUFFALO, N.Y. – Looking to leave their Buffalo trip on a high note, the Queens College volleyball team tallied 53 kills as freshman
Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) and senior
Alexis Deodat (Tampa Bay, FL) combined for 23 kills to defeat the Saints of D'Youville University at the College Center Gym Sunday afternoon 3-0
(Set Scores: 25-19, 26-24, 25-18) in East Coast Conference action.
With the win, the Knights improved to 6-9 overall and earned their first ECC win of the season.

Conrad and Deodat led the charge early as the duo combined for four kills as Queens took a 7-1 lead to begin the first set. But the Saints would fight back as they rallied to cut the deficit down to 8-6.
But sophomore
Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) would tally multiple kills to extend the lead back to five 12-7 before another D'Youville trimmed the lead down to one 13-12.
With the first set tied 16-16, a 6-1 run would allow Queens to run away with the first set as the Knights closed the first set with a 25-19 victory and take a 1-0 lead.
The second set would see a back-and-forth match in the early going before D'Youville leading 10-9 went on a 9-5 run to take a 19-14 advantage.
Franco would notch three kills as the Knights went on a 5-1 run to cut the deficit down to 19-20 before attacking errors put the home side up 23-19.
Trailing 23-19, a kill by sophomore
Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) would swing the momentum towards the Knights before Conrad tallied two kills to tie the second set 24-24.
A huge block by Deodat and freshman
Taylor Smith (Temecula, CA) would put the Knights up 25-24 before freshman
Ryann Frontera (Dripping Springs, TX) delivered an ace to put up the Knights in a commanding 2-0 lead as the visitors rallied back to take the second set 26-24.
With the third set tied 6-6, Deodat and Boudouris swung the momentum their way with an 8-0 run as the Knights went up 14-6. But the Saints refused to go away as they tallied a 4-0 run to cut the deficit down to four, 14-10.
But it would all Queens in the third set as the Knights picked up their first ECC victory in the College Center Gym to improve to 1-1 with a 25-18 third set victory.
Match Highlights
- Conrad tallied a match-high 12 kills and three blocks, while Deodat notched 11 kills and three blocks.
- Franco would fall short of a double-double as the sophomore recorded seven kills and 15 digs.
- Boudouris tallied her fifth double-double with 30 assists and 14 digs to go with two service aces.
- Frontera returned to the starting line as the rookie notched a match-high 19 digs, to go with two service aces and five assists.
- Smith tallied a match-high five blocks.
