FLUSHING, N.Y. – Opening the month of October on the road, the Queens College volleyball team traveled to Dobbs Ferry with a matchup against the Mavericks of Mercy College at Victory Gymnasium in East Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Knights took the first set but would drop the last three sets to fall 3-1
(Set Scores: 25-18, 21-25, 19-25, 19-25) as Queens was unable to take advantage of 31 attacking and 15 service errors committed by Mercy. With the loss, the Knights move to 1-2 in ECC play.

It was a see-saw first set to begin the match before the Knights trailing 7-6 went on a 4-0 run led by a kill from sophomore
Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) as they took a 10-7 lead.
After the Mavericks trimmed the lead down to 13-11, a service error by the Mavericks would help Queens go on a 5-0 run to take an 18-12 lead.
Leading 20-14, the Mavericks would rally back to trim Queens lead down to 21-17 before back-to-back Mavericks errors and a double block assist from freshman
Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, FL) and senior
Alexis Deodat (Tampa Bay, FL) put the Knights up 23-17.
A kill from Deodat put the Knights one point away from clinching the first set with a 24-18 before Queens clinched the first set with a 25-18 victory as the Mavericks were unable to put the ball over.
Having taken the first set, the second set saw both sides trade points before a 4-0 run by Mercy put them ahead 7-4. With the Knights trailing 12-8, Franco led a 6-1 run as Queens went up 14-13.
But the home side would respond with a run of their own as they took an 18-16 lead before a kill by Franco cut the deficit down to 18-17. But a 3-0 run by the home side would help them clinch the second set with a 25-21 victory to tie the match 1-1.
With the match tied 1-1, Osterhoudt and Franco gave the Knights a 4-0 start to the third set before the Mavericks went on a 6-0 run to take a 6-4 lead.
Both sides would trade leads before freshman
Elizabeth Cerullo (Saint James, N.Y.) and Franco led a 4-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. But the Knights would commit four attacking errors in the Mavericks' 7-0 run as the home side went up 16-12.
The Knights would respond with three kills in their 5-2 run to get within one, 18-17 but another 4-0 run by Mercy would allow the home side to close out the third set with a 25-19 victory and take a 2-1 match lead.
With the Knights now playing from behind, Mercy jumped out to a 7-3 lead. Trailing 12-6, Queens would rally back to get with two, 12-10. It would the closet Queens would get within a comeback as Mercy closed out the match to take the first meeting of the season with a 25-19 fourth set and a 3-1 victory.
Match Highlights
- Franco tallied her sixth double-double of the season with a team-high 10 kills and 10 digs. While Deodat notched six kills with a .319 hitting percentage.
- Sophomore Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) tallied 25 assists and eight digs.
- The match saw the score tied 21 times with 12 lead changes with eight ties and five lead changes in the second set.

Stefan Leger and his Knights will now stay home in October as they open a six-homestand beginning with the Lions of Molloy University on Tuesday (Oct. 4) evening at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in East Coast Conference play. The first serve set is 7:00 P.M.
