BUFFALO, N.Y. – Continuing East Coast Conference play, the Queens College softball team would leave a combined 19 runners on base as they fell to the Saints of D'Youville University Saturday evening at Dobson Field.
The Knights dropped game one to the score of 6-5 before the Saints held on for a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.
Senior
Ann Grimshaw (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) (2-4 AB, RBI) and freshman
Amanda Baez (Selden, N.Y.) (2-3 AB, 3B, RBI, 2R) knocked in multi-hit with RBIs apiece.
The Saints would take a 2-0 lead after two complete innings of plays before the Knights rallied back to take a 3-2 lead in the third inning. But a four-run inning in the bottom of the fourth would help the home side reclaim a 6-3 lead.
Queens would attempt a rally in the fifth frame as they tallied three hits but were only able to plate two runs to cut the deficit down to 6-5.
The Knights would leave three base runners in the last two innings as they were unable to force the Saints to bat again to drop game one 6-5.
In the nightcap, junior
Jenny Murphy (East Islip, N.Y.) (2-3 AB, RBI, R) knocked in her second multi-hit game of the season.
The Saints would take an early 1-0 lead before the Knights rallied back and took a 2-1 lead. But the home side would reclaim the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second.
The Saints would limit the Knights to four hits as they took a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning. Queens would cut the deficit down to 5-3 on Murphy's single but the Knights would leave the bases load as they fell 5-3 as they were unable to avoid the sweep.
