WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – On Saturday evening, the nationally-ranked #46 Queens College men's tennis team returned to East Coast Conference play as they matched up against the Wildcats of Daemen University at Miller Tennis Center. Following the doubles sweep, the Knights would sweep the match as they swept all singles matches to win 7-0 over the Wildcats.
With the win, the Knights improved to 9-6 overall, 3-0 in ECC play, while the Wildcats moved to 3-9 overall, 0-2 in conference play.
Doubles Competition
The Knights wasted no time taking an early 1-0 lead as
#1 doubles as the duo of sophomore
Omar El Shehawey(Cairo, Egypt) / senior
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) defeated Luis de Vuyst/Sam Greco to the score of 6-2.
Queens would clinch the doubles point as the #3 doubles of freshman
Philipp Uhde (Heidelberg, Germany) / senior
Hugo Evangelista de Andrade (Goiania, Brazil) defeated Jayven Williamson/Jack Paute Urdiales to the score of 6-2.
The #2 doubles junior duo of
Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) /
Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina ) would complete the sweep as they defeated the pair of Zachary LaPlante/Phillip Vance to the score of 6-2.
Singles Competition
Sophomore
Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) would put Queens up 2-0 as he quickly dispatched Greco to the score of 6-0, 6-0 at #4 singles court.
Uhde gave the Knights a commanding lead of 3-0 as he dispatched Ross Belen to the score of 6-0, 6-0 at #5 singles court.
Queens would clinch the match at #6 singles as Andrade defeated Williamson to the score of 6-1, 6-1.
With Rashad and Bibiloni given the day off in singles action, junior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was promoted to #1 singles, while Shehawey got promoted to #2 singles and Borges at #3 singles.
But the trio would complete the sweep as Borges picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Vance at #3 singles before Demuth earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Vuyst at #1 singles.
Shehawey would close out the evening with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at #2 singles over LaPlante as the Knights stayed perfect in conference play.
