FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's tennis team (1-4 overall) jumped ahead 1-0 following the doubles competition but the Knights would fall in four singles competition to the LIU Sharks (5-3 overall) Friday afternoon inside the Queens College Tennis Bubble.
Doubles Competition
The Knights took a 1-0 lead as the #2 doubles duo of sophomore
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / senior
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) defeated the Sharks duo of Fernandez Romera / Philip Hilble to the score of 6-1.
Queens would clinch the doubles points as the #3 doubles duo of junior
Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina ) / sophomore
Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) defeated Alessandro D'Anna / Vikas Dalal to the score of 6-1.
The Knights' #1 doubles pair of junior
Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) / junior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) fell 6-4 to the Sharks duo Ben Brandherm / Danila Ishchanka.
Singles Competition
Promoted to #2 singles competition, Bibiloni would put the Knights up 2-0 as he swept Ishchanka in straight sets to the score of 6-2, 6-2.
Shehawey promoted to #3 singles for the first time this season picked up his second straight victory as the Egyptian native defeated Indrabalan in straight sets to the score of 6-2, 6-4 to put the Knights up 3-0.
But freshman
Philipp Uhde (Heidelberg, Germany) would fall to D'Anna to the score 6-3, 6-2 as the Sharks cut the deficit down to 3-1.
Rashad would be the next one to fall as he fell in a closely contested two-set loss to the score of 6-4 6-4 at #1 singles against Brandherm.
After dropping the first set 6-3, Borges fought back to tie the match at #4 singles as he defeated Romera to the score of 6-3. But the German native who had fought back from a 3-1 third set down would take a 4-3 tiebreaker lead before eventually falling to the final score of 6-4 as the Sharks tied the match 3-3.
Down to the last match of the day at #6 singles court,
Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) fell 7-5 in the first set against Hilble before the sophomore fought back to tie the match with a 7-5 second set victory. But the Knights would suffer a 4-3 loss as Gonzalez fell 6-2 in the tiebreaker.
