NEWARK, N.J. – It was short rest for the Queens College men's tennis team as they returned to a cross-divisional matchup against Division I Southland member New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders Sunday afternoon.
But the Knights
(8-5 overall) would see their seven-game win streak come to an end as they fell to the score of 5-2.
Doubles Competition
Queens took an early lead into doubles play as #3 doubles pair of junior
Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina ) / sophomore
Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) defeated Abdullah Fouad/Daniel Sabogal to the score of 6-3.
The Knights would clinch the doubles point as the #2 doubles duo of junior
Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) / junior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) defeated Josh Smith/Oscar Callo Von Platen to the score of 6-4.
It would be a hard-fought doubles victory but the Knights' #1 doubles duo of sophomore
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / senior
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) would sweep doubles competition with a 7-5 victory over Amine El Kholti/Samuel Townes.
Singles Competition
But the Knights would fall in five singles matches as Shehawey fell first at #4 singles against Platen to the score of 6-1, 6-0.
Rashad lost 6-4, 6-1 to Kholti at #1 singles as NJIT took a 2-1 lead. At #3 singles Demuth fell to Smith to the score of 6-4, 6-3.
NJIT clinched the match with their fourth singles victory as Bibiloni would fell at #2 singles to Fouad to the score of 6-2, 6-3.
At #5 singles Borges would force a third set for the second consecutive match. Borges fell 6-1 in the first before he won the second 7-6
(7-2), but Kanetkar would defeat Borges 6-0 in the third set giving the Highlanders a 5-1 lead.
Freshman
Philipp Uhde (Heidelberg, Germany) was victorious in his singles match as he defeated Ammar Fekry to the score of 6-4, 7-5 to conclude the match.
